To be honest, it’s cute for a day. Otherwise avoid it. Kindness from locals is far and minuscule. It’s almost as if they go out of their way to be rude. Everything is up hill, so not handicap friendly. Overpriced for food. You will end up always paying $30 per person for underwhelming food. I wouldn’t come back or recommend it to anyone.

We drove through the town a couple of times but being honest didn't fancy getting out of the car.
Not much to see.

We stayed there as a base for 3 days and thats about it. If you are expecting something out of the Bible you will be severely disappointed. Concrete structures, closed shops and little going on. Difficult to walk around as the roads are busy. The area around the lido seems to be the most attractive but even this was deserted. Still it is on the lake with good views to the Golan Heights. Close to many religious sites so you are likely to be out of the town all day.

Tiberias must be a great place 25 years ago. I've visited Tiberias 2022 in December days, the city looked like extinct. Hotel ruins, shop's closed, Restaurant's ranked. The promenade lined up with waste and garbage, you can't believe. The only busy place is the harbour in city center, arranged with carousels, junk stores and colourful funfair light's. I've your travelling to Golan heights or Hermon maybe staying a night, but maybe Tabgha or other quiet places up north will be the better option for your journey.

What a shame. This appears to be once a thriving tourist resort on the banks of the Sea of Galilee. It certainly has all the facilities with great views of the ‘Sea’ but as we walked around for an hour it looked like multi cultural tourism was a thing of the past with many businesses closed or struggling to survive.
Our tour guide walked us round for an hour to understand the city. That was enough - give it a miss.

Like most cities in the Holy Land, Tiberias has ancient roots. Tiberias has seen many ups and downs, but it has been sustained by its strategic position on the Western shore of the Sea of Galilee, also known as Lake Kinneret, Tiberias was, in ancient times, situated an important trade route. Tiberias was a center of religious scholarship following the destruction of the Second Temple. Tiberias is one of Judaism's four holy cities.

Originally booked the group tour. Changed it to the private tour to personalize it. Was told I would have to create my own itinerary. Asked for help several times and was given NONE. Asked for suggestions and got no answer. Told I would have to arrange the boat ride and baptism on my own. Asked for information about the boat ride and baptism and was told they had no contact information whatsoever. If they do it as a group tour, I find it hard to believe they have no contact information. After spending two days researching, calling Israel several times and looking at the map and coming up with an itinerary, I sent it to them. They sent a normal itinerary in response. When we met the guide, we discussed it and was told it was not possible. Although almost everything was as listed in the group tour. When we got to the baptism site, the guide told us we didn’t have time to wait. We did it anyways, which he did not like at all. After this we cancelled our other private trip with them and scheduled with someone different. I didn’t realize we had another private trip scheduled with this company until it was too late to cancel. That one was extremely disappointing! Would not recommend

Quite frankly, unless you need a base to explore the Galilee there isn’t much to say about Tiberias. It’s a typical touristy town without any significant sights.
A dip in the Kinneret is fun but that’s about it.
There are a couple of beautiful hotels to stay in - a good respite in the middle of a trip to Israel.

Between the sea and the antiquities there are tombs of the righteous and landmarks for the most part. A very beautiful city, but also very hot. In the summer it is difficult to walk around it. Around the city there are many natural places and sites with water, springs and streams. Recommended place for a trip.
