This 42-story building was dedicated in 1983 to the memory of Erastus Corning 2nd, a long-time mayor of Albany who played a special role in the creation of the Plaza as the center of state government. The Tower is the tallest building in New York State outside of New York City. The building dominates the Albany skyline with its glass, marble and angular forms. The Corning Tower Observation Deck is located on the 42nd floor. Breathtaking views of Albany, the Plaza, and surrounding areas can be enjoyed. Also visible are the Hudson River Valley, the Port of Albany, large portions of the city and its government, the foothills of the Adirondacks, the Catskills, and the Berkshires of western Massachusetts. 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (LAST CHECK-IN AT 3:45 p.m.). Hours subject to change without notice. Closed Saturday and Sunday and holidays. To gain access to the Observation Deck, all persons 16 and older must check in by presenting photo identification at the Observation Deck Check-In, Concourse Level, Corning Tower. Persons under 16 must be accompanied by an adult with photo identification.

Great views

As Albany's lone skyscraper (lol), the Corning Tower provides great views of the city and surrounding areas. Only downside is it's only open Monday through Friday.

I wouldn't make a special trip just to see the Corning Tower, but if you are already at the plaza, then the view from the top is definitely worth the 15 minutes.

Its free! Go! Terrific view over Albany and further up to Vermont along the river. Entrance is via the underground plaza near to the Museum end. Check opening hours. Apparently worth going in the snow!

The tower is one of the many State Government buildings in the area of the city. It is the tallest building in Albany, NY. The Observation Deck on the 42nd floor is open to the public free of charge. There is a dedicated elevator to get there. Along the perimeter of the floor, there are pictures which show what you... More

This is an office building for NYS OGS, NYS Health and other smaller agencies. Not much to see, unless you visit the observation deck. Great Skyline views from the tallest building in Albany.

42nd floor and free (bonus). Great views of Albany and the Hudson. I only stepped into the building to see the giant stainless steel horse statue up close and realized from there we could go up to the observation deck. Glad we found it when we did (friday) because others in our party tried and couldn't go up on a... More

Want the best views in Albany? Then come here and go to the 42nd floor. You have a close up view of the capitol and on a clear day you can see both the Catskills and Adirondacks! It is best saved for a clear day if you want to see further. For those who are into photography, you won't be... More

We've been to numerous observation decks (Freedom Tower, Empire State Building, Space Needle, numerous Lighthouses) and each offer exciting views to its own surroundings. We came to Albany for the weekend to visit our oldest Daughter and her boyfriend and as that we came up early before they got off work, we decided amongst other sites to go to the... More

I'm not sure I'd make a special trip to go to the top of this tower, but it's the tallest building in albany and you'll get some nice views of the Hudson Valley and surrounding areas. The building itself is sort of blah with the exception of some oddly placed large pieces of art here and there.
