Based in Arusha, the gateway to Tanzania's famous national parks, Duma Explorer was founded in 2004. Owners Stacy Readal, an American, and Hezron Mbise, a Tanzanian, live permanently in Arusha and bring more than four decades of tourism and business experience to Duma Explorer.

Our highly personalized safaris and treks offer a unique window into the landscape, wildlife and culture of this extraordinary region.

Safaris

Each of our safari guides has at least ten years of experience as a safari guide in Northern Tanzania, ensuring that you will be guided by skilled tourism professionals throughout your trip.

Mountain Climbs

Our passionate and highly trained mountain crew totals 150 people, including guides, cooks and porters. Many of our guides began their careers with us as porters in 2004. Our mountain guides each have a minimum of 7 years of experience hiking Kilimanjaro. Duma's chief guides and most assistant guides are Wilderness First Responder certified.

Duma is a proud partner for responsible travel with Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project. Duma is one of only a few companies to qualify for partnership and it regularly meets all the requirements of fair treatment of porters.

Our equipment on Kilimanjaro includes Mountain Hardwear Trango 3.1 sleeping tents, Marmot and North Face mountaineering mess tents, tables, chairs, extra thick mattresses, toilet tents and emergency oxygen.

We used Duma Explorer as our in country provider for our UK clients to trek Kilimanjaro. We're a UK based adventure travel company and having an operator in Tanzania is essential to ensure the delivery of our trips. We did the 7 day Machame route and Duma did not disappoint. Everything was simply as described. Transport was on time if... More

Duma Explorer is perhaps the finest safari outfitter operating in the Northern Parks of Tanzania (Serengeti, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Arusha, Ngorongoro Conservation Area). Very experienced and knowledgeable guides, vehicles in great mechanical condition and last, but not least - they actually own two great camps. Chaka Camp, which is a mobile camp, following the Great Migration and located either in... More

My girlfriend and I went on a 9-day camping safari with Duma Explorer. It is not a very big company but they are very professional. We visited Tarangire, Ndutu (in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, just south of the Serengeti), Central Serengeti, the Ngorongoro crater, and Lake Manyara. Stacy was very helpful organizing our safari. However, don't be shy to ask... More

We had an amazing 7-day safari to the Tarangire National park, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and lake Eyasi. It was an amazing adventure and we had a great guide to answer all our questions and knew the place perfectly well. Also our cook did a great job, always caring about our wellbeing. Everytime again!

We had a wonderful five day safari with "Wilson" and Dumas Explorers through the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Park. Wilson was superb at spotting the animals and never tired of our questions. He was a top-notch guide and also a big Chicago Cubs fan, which was great for us!! Dumas Explorers was great from our... I have been taking a small group on Safari in Tanzania for't us a beautiful sweeping view. It was wonderful sitting on the veranda in the morning watching the sun come up and sitting around the campfire in the evening for sundowners and listing to stories from Laizer. And the food was wonderful and unexpected out in the bush. It... More

We booked our Safari with Duma explorer and they were excellent. The company was great, they sent good drivers to pick us up/drop us off from the airport, everyone we interacted with was extremely friendly and professional. However, our safari driver, Joseph Saleko, was a true gem-- in fact, he was a highlight of our safari. I'm sure every duma... More

Thanks so much for the great feedback, ACM026! We are delighted you had a wonderful time. All of our guides are wonderful, as you surmised, but each client usually seems to fall in love with their particular guide and doesn't want to take a risk on any other guide. You are most welcome to come back and of course, request... More

We read about Duma in the Washington Post and requested the featured guide. Isaac was amazing - has 20 years of safari guide experience. He would spot animals way far off camaflouged in the distance and we would scratch our heads like "how did he see that?" He has a lot of good stories and overall very warm, kind, low... More

I had a great experience with Duma Explorer. They were very prompt in getting back to me with quotes. On arrival at the airport, our guide and driver, Kisimbo was already there even though our flight landed a little early at 7am. I highly recommend Kisimbo as a guide/driver. He's very professional, a good driver, knows a lot about the... More
