A must-dive for all scuba enthusiasts. One of the world’s top dive sites IMHO. The next time I am in this part of the world, I will just dive Richilieu Rock and not bother with all the other sites around ;D

..... you need a good calm sunny day. I dived this site in 2007 on a Liveaboard and had a couple of great dives.

This time it was pretty awful though and just a heads-up to those diving on miserable days. We had rain and overcast sky, strong currents and a heavy swell.

90 minute transfer to the location was a pain in the swell, then a dingy transfer to the bigger boat was fine. We all get geared up on the big boat and then had to get back into the small dingy to get transferred to a fixed line buoy.

In the swell the fully geared transfer into a bobbing dingy was difficult and the current was so bad that timing for everyone to clear the dingy and get hold of the buoy rope was critical otherwise the current would take you away. Visibility was not great either and still the site was packed with divers. Conditions were so bad no snorkelling that day!

My least enjoyable diving day but one cannot choose the weather and I was unlucky.

Probably the best spot for snorkeling, good place to visit for a day trip from Khaolak. Although many people go to this place every day, it's jam pack with tourists.

We did a speedboat daytrip on the blue dolphin and it was awesome. So many fish and healthy corals. Definitely the best dive site around here.

I had three dives at Richeliue Rock and I loved the day over there. Diverse fish, great corals, fascinating color purple under the sea.

Unfortunately, it is over crowded. There were 15 liveaboards during our dive at the site.

A great dive site, but at this rate it will not be that for too much longer - far too many divers on one site - numbers needs to be limited to protect the reef and its inhabitants

I spent 3 seasons as a scuba instructor, dive guide and cruise director on liveaboards in the Similans. RR is an amazing dive site, if you visit outside main season (Christmas till end February). You can see SO much, from the very small (tiger egg cowries!) to the very big (whale sharks!). But do yourself a favour and go when there are fewer people, if you can. Also, don't do day trips, because the sunset and very-early morning dives are best.

We went on the Oktavia and had a fantastic time. The dive site gets quite busy but there was enough space for everybody. There were currents present but our experienced guide navigated us safely behind the rocks to shelter form this.
