Basically, it is callled "PaSat" Hokkien dialect or "market" in English. The local Thai understand Hokkien as many travellers are from Penang-Malaysia. So, if you want to go to Santisuk Market ,just tell the Tuk-Tuk driver that u want to go to "pasat" or "pasar", they will bring you there for a fee of 20Bath/person/trip (if you are staying around the city (Lee Gardens Hotel)
Wear light clothings as there is no air-conditioner units there. Slippers will be just fine.
What to buy there: Snacks (sea-weed) is one of favourite. Nuts. local fruits such as mangoes is one of my fav. If you are looking for other cheap stuffs, clothings, bags, shoes and slippers are widely available there.
Another things that the locals or tourist from Penang like to buy most is : Zebra Brand Stainless Steel kitchen products, such as Mugs, Food Container ,etc.
Note: MAKE SURE YOU BARGAIN the price. From personal experience, I bought a pair of Rubber Slippers for 120Bath, the owner first offered me 220Bath. So you know that you can Discount the prices from 30-40%, depending on the products you are buying....
During Local School Holidays, it will be very crowded, so just take care of your own belongings.

Regarded as one of the best shopping spot in Hat Yai, it is a must go places for many especially Malaysian, to buy cheap price goods like medicine, food and clothing. Not too far from the center of Hat Yai, a short trip by Tuk Tuk will cost you from 20 to 30 bath. Once arrive you will be seeing shops selling all sort of goods as mentioned earlier, and do remember that some shops sell exactly the same thing but they do differ from pricing and sometimes in quality as well.
To get some branded items, here is a place to look for as well. But before you purchase it, make sure you are satisfied with the quality first as i had experience where branded goods sold here are of different quality than other country, so just be aware of this.

We went here just to shop after a tiring trip around the small town of Hat Yai & the beach. All you can find here is fake stuff at cheap price so, don't set up yr hope too high for quality. Halal street stalls are abundant around the market so, don't worry be happy. Thai food is spicy so, if yr stomach can't take too much capsaicin, order everything with reduced chillis @ spices ya. Great place to do some people watch & get friendly with the locals. At night, this area is teeming with live shows of the drag queens & transvestites that are too excited to meet & greet you..haha...l never forget the girls in pretty gowns behind the window display waiting to be hired. Looks like, things are not just for sale around there.

This is a place where you can buy all of the dodgy gear you might not find in a night market or regular day market. They sell fakes, DVDs, vaping implements, various pills and herbal remedies, as well as countless trinkets and souvenirs.
The scale of the place is truly epic, and because you can’t really see where you’re going in the complex, there always seems to be another little passage to check out. It’s interesting walking around in there, and if you’re after something slightly below board, this is where you go. For mainstream items though, forget it. I was shocked at how expensive some things were. The trouble is, this is the first market most visitors go to, so the vendors are well aware of this opportunity to fleece customers.
Case in point: the two photos attached show the same bag of snacks in Santisuk Market and Big C. Santisuk is triple the price, and the same goes for a lot of other items. By all means check it out, but be careful buying anything.

If you look for a cutting board for your kitchen made from tamarind wood (makham), an Indonesian sarong for yourself or whomever, or if you are looking for reasonable DVD copies, raw sugar, chocolate, this is the place to shop. Most items are smuggled in from Malaysia and a bit cheaper than at the local supermarket. As they are no original DVDs available in HDY, this is a good place to buy a copy. But watch out, you only want to go for "Master Copies", and in English. Just check your copy inside the market, if the quality is what you are looking for. If this is not possible, check 'em in your room, whatever DVD is unsatisfactory, will normally be traded in. Or you only do business with the shop you know. Price for a DVD, as good as the original, is 70THB. If you are not familiar with the prices, shop around. The atmosphere is friendly and the aisles are narrow.
I restrain from eating at the attached restaurants, as I am not convinced of their cleanliness. I rather eat in the suburbs of Hat Yai, where the restaurants are cheaper, and where I can observe my order being prepared freshly.

This is my 3rd time in Hatyai & I always felt that Santisuk is the best place to shop in Hatyai, especially if you are male. This is where you shop for bags, fake adidas shirts & cashew nuts. & we always buy those things here. You can even find police & army uniforms & toy guns which look & feel like real guns & walkie talkies. It's even better than shopping at the bigger market near the Clock Tower, although your female counterpart might not agree.

Lots of items selling there, but remember, every time the price is out, cut the price by half, then slowing bathing to 70-80% of the price. The goods there had been markup for foreigners.
Got there before noon or evening onwards. Hat Yai is a hot place, in the afternoon will be very hot inside the market.
