Description:

Hutsadin Elephant Foundation offers the visitor a variety of attractions....

Hutsadin Elephant Foundation offers the visitor a variety of attractions. At present we have 4 elephants available for trekking or for our latest option of bareback riding. Each trek or ride will take you through the surrounding areas. After your trek you will be able to watch a small show by our youngest elephant, or if you would prefer you are welcome to wash her instead and there will be plenty of opportunities for some amazing photos. After this you may want to visit our retired elephants.

If you prefer a more hands approach, you may want to try our 'mahout experience' where you will get a talk about the foundation and its ethos plus the individual stories of all our elephants and why they were rescued, you will also help to take care of our retired elephants for the morning(9.00a.m - 12.00), in this time you will get to prepare food, give medication, clean their shelters, take one for a walk and then give her a wash. Will receive a t shirt to remember your time with us and you are welcome to have a free vegetarian lunch and ice cream to finish your morning. (please e mail for details as only available on certain days and only small groups are taken). If you can't spare three hours but still want something 'hands on' you can take one of elephants for a walk and then wash then on return - approximately 1/2 hour. If you just want to have a look around the foundation and chat to some of the English speaking volunteers you are more than welcome and there is no charge, however they are only there on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday morning. All of our elephants have been rescued and all have their own story, there is an information board near the seating area where you can learn more about each individual elephant.A final word to clarify the situation :- you may be asked for a tip or to buy trinkets from the mahouts - this is entirely up to you and is not supported by the foundation. Any money that you give to the mahouts DOES NOT go into the foundation funds and is not used to buy food etc (no matter what you may be told). Should you wish to make a donation please put it into the box in the front office or give to one of the volunteers. As a warning, some taxi/tuk tuk drivers will try to take you to other elephant attractions - to ensure that you come to Hutsadin phone the number at the top of the page we can provide a taxi that will bring you here. If you are making your own way, our staff all wear white clothing, volunteers wear Hutsadin t shirts. We are located at the very top of the hill (coming from town) on the right hand side, go past the signs and turning for Elephant Village We hope that you enjoy your visit and find it a memorable experience. Please post your comments on tripadvisor for the benefit of others.

My husband surprised me on my birthday by taking me to the Hutsadin Elephant Foundation. This was on my wish list to do and I was not disappointed. I would have gone to the website and read up about it more before opting to ride the elephant 1000BT-$30US 20 min. instead of walking along side it due to the pressure... More

I have visited this place with my family (with siblings and parents) and we have all loved it!! We got greeted straight away and all the staff was so friendly and lovely!! The elephants looked really well looked after. We were a bit scared of the elephant (the youngest elephant at the foundation) at first but we soon realised that... More

This morning we took the matriarch of Hutsadin out for a little walk in the hills of Hua Hin. We found a good scratching-tree, fed her bananas and heard interesting stories about the former life of the elephants of Hutsadin. After the walk we gave her a good morning bath and scrubbing. It was a truly rewarding experience both for... More

We visit here today ( 15/2 -17). Me and my three year old daughter went for the elephant walk. It was a very cool thing to have done! My daughter was very exited, you get a bag of bananas to feed the elephant and after the walk you get to wash the elephant! Our guide was very good and told... More

My nephew and I went on the mahout experience this morning. Had such a wonderful time - met the elephants, walked , washed and fed them and learnt about the background of each in a briefing meeting. The volunteer we had guiding us (Jo from England) was superb - her care for the elephants was so obvious from the way... More

Thanks for your fantastic review of our mahout experience. I'm so glad that you both enjoyed your morning and it's always so pleasing to watch our visitors grow in confidence from being respectfully wary to rubbing an elephants tongue as though it's something you do every day. All of us volunteers love the elephants in our care and will continue... More

Our 9 yo and 13 yo boys really enjoyed the experience of the walking with the elephant (a 49 yo female) and hand feeding her fruit by the trunk and mouth. The guide was... More

I never like to see elephants chained up but it is hard to criticize such good work. The six or seven elephants are all rescue elephants so any life is netter than what they had and the people here obviously care about what they do. You can get close to the elephants, feed them, take them for a walk or... More

Thank you for taking the time to write your review and for recognizing the work that we are trying to do here to change the life's of our elephants for the better. The fact that you can take our elephants for a walk rather than ride them is something that doesn't happen anywhere else in the area and it gives... More

Hutsadin Elephant Foundation is a lovely way to spend some time in Hua Hin. You can see the elephants are well cared for and you have the opportunity to purchase bananas and coconuts to feed to your new friends. Just a beautiful afternoon doing something that you cannot do in the UK

We wanted to visit an elephant sanctuary but we were only travelling the south of the country and came across Hutsadin Elephant Foundation. You could not class it as a full sanctuary because some elephants were still able to be rode here and perform minor tricks, which was disappointing; however the volunteers work really hard every day to try and... We are so pleased that you enjoyed your 'mahout experience'. It is true that we are not a sanctuary, but we have never claimed to be, we are a working establishment but we do care very much for our elephants and all the other animals in our care. As you know we are working towards a huge bathing area with... More
