“I don't think it is safe.”
This ancient fortress was strategically built in view of the harbor and city in the 4th century BC. Roman and Byzantine engravings can still be seen on the remaining walls.

This area has a better view of the city center but I don't advise anyone to visit this area alone or during the nights. At all costs visit this area with a local guide and avoid all-night visits.

The view is not that great, but I guess it is a good spot to take pictures of the Atatürk sculpture, if the sky is clear. However the "castle" was very disappointing. It is barely better than a wall and some stairs. The area doesn't...More

Do you want to see İzmir bay and almost whole city ? If yes, this is the best place to do it. The castle is believed to be constructed by one of the commanders of Alexander after Alexander had a dream when he was taking...More

Highlight of Izmir! Climbing up the stairs of this district which has the same name as the castle with it's charming favela atmosphere was one of our best travel experiences so far. It's many stairs and the colourful houses create a great spirit which passes...More
