In the world no river is wider at the estuary than this one. Alluvial soils picked up by its forceful drive to the sea make it a brown color. You can't see across it of course, so it's waves convince you it might be an ocean. But you can ferry across it at Colonia in an hour.

This great river delta is now apparently always brown from runoff silt from upsteam & pollution from Buenos Aires but its sheer size still makes it impressive & define Colonia

If it would not be because the water is not salty you would think you are in a sea, it is immense of a very specific silver colour and around Colonia Sacramento it has very nice views

Perhaps because we live near the ocean ,we always head first to water. The old wharf has long since disappearedbut the current one offers nice views of the shores .There are lots of inviting restaurants along this area too.

This is a river, not a sea! The widest river in the world that connects Colonia to Montevideo and Buenos Aires. Take a sit and breath fresh air with beautiful sunshine.

This river is beautiful everywhere, and on a sunny day, it is worth taking the walk along the river in Colonia. Very pretty scenes, and calming walk.
