Four routes, each divided into ten sections by stopping and refueling stations, lead up to Mt. Fuji's snow-covered tip. You don't have to be a die-hard mountaineer to climb Mt. Fuji; the slopes are full of children and adults of all ages, shapes, and sizes. The official climbing season only runs from the beginning of July to the end of August, but you can take the train from Toyko to the fifth station any season.

We were lucky enough to see Mt. Fuji several times on our train travels through Japan, and decided to try to get a closer look for some photos. I Googled the best location for photography and there were several suggestions. We tried the Five Lakes...More

We had taken trains out to view Mt. Fuji two other times and were disappointed by heavy cloud cover. Not today! On our third time we got an unobstructed, albeit, slightly hazy view. It was worth the effort and all those train rides to see...More

The North Face was closed for renovations. We took a hike around the northwest edge of the mountain that was beautiful but we could not ascend. The mountain is as beautiful as can be imagined and should not be missed because it is so accessible....More

Went there early June and quite cooling at 8'c. Nice weather and nice view. Advised to go early there as better and clearer view of the peak.

The 3 hour trip to Mt. Fuji was worth it! We were lucky to go on a perfect sunny day and saw Fuji in its full glory. Snow was starting to melt the the view was picture perfect. We are definitely going back!

We had read, and been told, that prevailing weather conditions mean that Mount Fuji is no visible for much of the time. However, the gods must have been looking after us, because we had clear views on two of the three days we were in...More

We sailed into Shimizu on our cruise ship right past Mt Fuji. What a wonderful view - almost cloudless so we could see the snow capped mountain. During the day on a tour of Shimizu we were visiting the 650 year old Holy pine tree...More

I'll be around Mt Fuji in late June. I understand hiking season is only July-August - is it still worth visiting? Are the shops/restaurants in the 5th station open? Thanks!
