I have reviewed this place back in December 2019 and in my recent trip back to Nagoya, I noticed there were quite a significant change. This underground shopping street is much quieter with lesser crowd and a number of shops are vacant or closed (not in operations).

Majority of the stores were mainly restaurants, cafes, souvenir and gifts and phamarcies, with only a few fashion and shoe shops.

In fact, during the lunch/dinner time, it was not crowded at all, except for a few handful popular restaurants with queues.

Probably the covid19 situation had dramatic impact on the operations. So it's a breeze walking here unlike over at the JR Gate Tower, that is so crowded all long day which you can walk through here (need not cross the traffic light at the street level)! You can still find a decent meal here but other than that not much to see as the JR Gate Tower has more to see!

However, an update, the hotel above it and next to BicC , Meitetsu New Grand Hotel had already closed down that we stayed in our previous trip.

Located just next to our hotel, Meitetsu New Grand Hotel (do refer to my earlier review of the hotel), this is an underground shopping street that will link you to the other side of the road, to the JR Nagoya station, Takashimaya Towers etc. It's quite a long stretch of passage way but you can leisurely walk around regardless of rain or shine outside!

There are many eateries, restaurants and cafes here, besides gift and souvenir shops, bookstore, shoes and fashion outlets etc. McDonalds is here too. But do take note of the operational hours of the shops/eateries you intend to patronize as some shops do close early or some even not opened for business throughout our stay.

There are many entrances from here and do take note also on the directional signs in which where you want to go or which train line/station you would like to go to. If not, you may find yourself wasting time and effort walking in wrong direction.

Overall, it's a nice shopping street with lots to eat in particular!

Good:
- next to Nagoya station
- shopping and eating in one place
- there's English menu in the restaurants (at least 3 that I've dined in).
- tebasaki (fried chicken wing) and eel were so delicious. Apparently, Nagoya is also known for those two food.

Bad:
- always long line to use restroom.

Avenue Esca offers you convenient shopping and eating. There are a few good ramen shops in Avenue Esca, we almost passed by Ave Esca everyday when we were in Nagoya.
