We did the Walking course the first afternoon we arrived in Takayama, and it was a great way to get a feel for the town. There were some really scenic moments, at the shrines and with the gravestones. We first started with a map, but...More

You will come across many shrines and nice architectures of various characters as you hike in this trail. A pair of comfortable shoes will suffice. I would strongly recommend a toilet break prior to embarking this trail as toilets can be hard to find, if...More

I decided upon a whim to try the Higashiyama Walking trail, walking up after I visited the Miyagawa Morning Market. It's about a 1km walk to the Higashiyama Hakusan Shrine, which is along the walking trail. Along the trail you'll notice many tombstones and signage...More

The course starts on the northern part of the old town and ended at the Park at the southern side of the old town. The paths take us to old eerie shrines of Takayama. Take heed of the route in the Dairyuji Park as the...More

Consider doing this walking course only if you've run out of things to do in takayama. The walking course brings you around temples (but by temple, is more of a shrine. Do not expect temples like Kyoto), and one actually walks past cemetery in the...More

This "walk" is actually a random-ish path through the town and surroundings of Takayama. One need not walk only along the marked path, you can just wander, which is the idea :-). It's a beautiful trail with peaceful shrines, romantic old ruins & buildings, a...More

The walk is a little bit outside the center so it isn’t too crowded. The road is easy to find and you get to see plenty of beautiful shrines. I really liked that a part of it goes through an area of houses and rice/vegetable...More

We were in takayama nov 8-10. The leaves were magnificent. We walked the entire trail plus wandered through endless paths in the park at the end. Do beautiful. Loved the slower pace after much sightseeing in larger cities.

We did this walk in October and the autumn leaves added great colour to the many shrines and temples dotted along the hillside.

Really enjoyed this course. Walk in the hills outside of of the town. Nice trails to follow but could be better signed. I had to retrace my steps several times because I missed obscurely placed signs. But cemeteries, temples, castle ruins and parks are quite...More
