Very touristy, busy. But some cute shops such as the Gold/Silver Leaf shop, Sake shops, and the Gold Leaf Museum. Nice tea shops as well. But very, very touristy - no locals just tons of tourists.

This neighborhoud shows you the old town, with many places to visit such as a former geisha house, a place to show and keep the gold leaves safe (an authentic product of Kanazawa), many tea houses and restaurants. Not too big, but giving a perfect...More

The district is very well preserved and has a number of helpful signs to identify some special buildings and history. Not as well knwon as the Gion in Kyoto, but very interesting

Kanazawa old town is genuinely beautiful - however if you're going to go to Kyoto, you'll see much of the same in the Gion and Higashiyama districts there.

Some beautiful old buildings but the tourist masses lessen the experience. An easy walk from the staion and a stop of the loop bus. Went back in the evening, but there is no illumination of the buildings, just dark and empty streets.

I enjoyed walking through here. Luckily it was very quiet, so it was peaceful, interesting and charming.

I would recommend taking public transportation but if you do need to bring a car, there are small parking lots around the neighborhood. These will likely be easily full on weekends so come early.

Sorry I haven't been to a tea ceremony myself, but I think they did some tea ceremonies in the teahouse, which is in the garden across from kenroku-en (Kanazawa). It is possible they just did it on the particular day. Best... More
