Since there is very little english translation to the exhibits, there is very little to take away from this museum, the school interior is not much different for any 100 year old school. The exterior was covered in cladding due to restoration work, we could...More

Came here given its historical significance. Oldest elementary school in Japan. Its close to the castle...under a 10min walk where you will pass by the Matsumoto shrine. Unfortunately during our visit it was under renovation. Located just south of the old building is the new...More

As it's just down the road (5 min walk) from the castle it's worth dropping in to if you have an hour to spare. The entrance fee is just ¥300 (adult) so it's pretty cheap. There's not a whole lot to see as it's just...More

This was very ute and interesting. Unfortunately, not many of the explanatory notes were in English so I feel we missed out on understanding a lot of what was presented. However, the information we did gather was interesting. The school is in very good condition...More

Worth visiting. Can walk from the castle in 10 mins. A very good example of Meiji architecture and nice displays inside. Not much English but they speak for themselves.

Several of the attractions, including the castle are located close together allowing time to visit several of them on one walking trip. We visited Kaichi Gakko Primary School shortly before it closed and were concerned we would not have enough time to do the visit...More

We visited on a very wet afternoon and as retired teachers, found it really interesting. So many aspects are familiar wherever and when ever, and there are some really evocative photos of boys and girls at their lessons all those years ago. Not much information...More

This place is so interesting. You can understand what kind of environment on whether Japan's child was learning at the time. You can feel that era in 1829.
