This shrine is worth visiting if you happen to be in Shizuoka or Shimizu. It is attractive on a small scale. The construction and colour are enjoyable and it is a peaceful place to spend half an hour or so.

I have visited sengen shrine on both of my visits to Shizuoka as it is so beautiful. With many different structures to visit you get a real feel for Japanese culture. Each building very different. There an stalls to buy your fortunes or little souvenirs. You can walk up the steps to the top shrines too (there are about 100... More

We visited this shrine as one of our tour locations before heading towards Mt. Fuji. The buildings that comprise this shrine are colorful and peaceful. The colors are vibrant and the wood carvings show clear details. There are gardens adjacent to the shrine that leads to peaceful meditation.

Went here with family looking for the b29 memorial as I had family who died in the crash. With the history of everything that happened there this is a special place. The hike up the hill is not hard and can be done in 20 minutes. If you are in the area and don't have a personal connection, it is... More

Before we were married, my then-fiancee and I visited this shrine in Shizuoka, where she was working. I made my first trip to Japan to come see her, and she showed me this shrine she had been enjoying. While the presence of some of the vending machines were somewhat uninspired, they were at least hidden within one of the buildings... More

While Shizuoka is not on most folks short list of places to see whilst in Japan, the city does offer some interesting places. One of them is Sengen Shrine. (jinja is the japanese word for shrine) The garden is very traditional and the buildings themselves are a good place to take some photos. There is a stone stairway that leads... More

This shrine is walking distance from the Shizuoka station. Maybe 20 minutes depending on your walking speed. It is HUGE. Souvenirs are available. LOTS of stairs. Plan at least half a day. Lots of great small shops on the way to the shrine. They tend to be open later in the day, but you can find some great souvenirs on... More

It is actually made up of a number of shrines in a same cloisture. The Main Shrine building is for sure represents the architectural beauty of Shizuoka. It could be the candidate for World Heritage as "Historical Monuments relating to Tokugawa Shogunate" only if it is well promoted. English guiding material is not readily available and the guiding mapbaord for... More
