This was a glorious and beautiful sunny April morning in Japan and our cruise ship headed towards Shimizu Port to dock. In all its glory, Mt. Fuji was dead center ahead of us - we were lucky since the skies were blue and few clouds...More

Unless you are docking here on a cruise, there's not much to do around this small port. There are a few stalls that sell food items and suvioneers when the cruise ships dock. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this port.

Come here on a sunny day and you can see ships sailing past Mount Fuji. There are sometimes special events here, but the view of the mountain is good enough, especially from the upper level balcony.

Inside the shopping center (on the ground floor) has a restaurant where you can eat good fresh buffet food. In the restaurant you can admire the harbor area.

What makes this port so famous is Mt. Fuji + beautiful harbour + the ocean + on a clear day = a magnificent picture. Although most tourists just pass by en route to Mt.Fiji but the town still makes a effort to attract tourists and...More

Will be coming into Shimizu port for a day on October 17. Any suggestions on local guides to go to Hakone Park for a possible siting of Mt. Fuji? Any other suggestions for a day tour while there.

Hi, For views of Mt Fuji, I'd suggest you drive the Fuji 5 lakes loop. We were at Hakone lake on a cloudy day and didn't see it, plus Hakone lake is fairly touristy. The 5 lakes (Lake Kawaguchiko, Saiko, Yamanakako... More
