We arrived on Showa Day April 29,a national holiday that celebrates birthday of Showa Emperor, Hirohito, (Dec 25, 1926-Jan 7, 1989). We decided to skip Goryokaku Tower, line too long. Instead, our tour guide took us to Goryokaku Park for the highlight of the cherry...More

This park is definitely a MUST SEE while in Hakodate. It's just 10 minutes by bus form the train station. Go u the tower and you have a beautiful view over the city!

I would recommend both the tower and the park itself for both the views and the information. Lovely gardens. Lots of explanations in English. Cherry blossoms in May will be spectacular—there are one 1600 trees.
