Unfortunately we were in a rush since we arrived at 1720, it was already dark, and they close at 1800. I am sure it would've been more worthwhile if we gave ourselves more time.

I loved visiting the Goryokaku fort, gardens and tower. You can see it all within about 2 hours and if the weather is nice, spend time renting a little paddle boat in the star shaped river around the park. I particularly enjoyed visiting the rebuilt...More

Hakodate has an excellent tram system with a stop close to the park. It's about a 10 minute ride from the centre. Your cruise ship will probably provide a shuttle bus to the town. Enjoy Peter
