The tower overlooks the Goryokaku Park. It is beautiful during winter but I believe it will be spectacular during spring as there are many cherry blossom trees in the park. Looking forward to coming back again. Not many visitors when we were there.

Goryokaku Park is a park with an interesting shape, though that is something you will not really notice when you take a stroll in it. I think you can skip this park if you are only staying in Hakodate for a day or two. Exploring other parts of the city will be more rewarding.

Blanketed in snow over a wide expanse the feeling and view of the wide snow cover is quite impressive . Great for a slow stroll enjoying the scenery and the feeling of having the park all to yourself during winter as visitors are very few.

park is free, unlike the Tower. nice place to walk and explore. if time permits, visit the Magistrate's office. fees apply. we enjoyed the office self-tour as we got to see the tatami room, architecture and learned a bit about the history

Great place for history lovers. Magistrate house is rebuilt as it is and maintained nicely. Well integrated museum with interactive information.

Amazing place that's nice and quiet. We didn't go in the spring but I hear the cherry blossom trees are nice. It's free to walk around. Place is very clean

Goryokaku Park is a very nice park to visit during any season - there are cherry blossoms in spring, greenery in summer, autumn leaves in fall and lightups and christmas decorations during the winter. I visited in spring and summer. This is the most popular place in Hokkaido for ohanami, so you can expect lovely views and hordes of people.... More

You can view the aerial view of this place from the Goryokaku Tower. The park itself has a historical background which you can read up on at the entrance. Certain good spots for photograph opportunities. Try the gelato at the second floor of the Tower before heading to the park.

It is a place with meaningful historical background, a good place for photography. However place smaller than expected. To get aerial view, need to visit the Goryokaku Tower. Bus timings from Hakodate were very fixed and punctual so make sure u plan your time around the park. A good fast food-Lucky Perriot is right across the Tower.

Walked in the morning, and noticed that lights have been prepared. I did not manage to see them lighted up at night - must be breathtaking to see at night.
