The outside of the building is impressive from a modern building view and it is next to the cruise terminal.

Ferries starting their cruise trip crossing the Japan Sea to cities like Nigata and back for one week used this Shin Nihonkai Ferry Pier as their embarkation and disembarkation points. Shin Nihonkai ferry can be great for Japanese people but turned out to be a very bad experience for us who don't speak japanese. When we arrived at 10pm to take the 00:30 ferry (found on their online documentation in english), we've been "told" (nobody speak english at the counter) the ferry was cancelled. we took the ferry from the City of Nigata on the Japanese Sea - left Friday and returned Wednesday. Friday - ferry was fully packed going but only half full coming back. this makes a big difference. we had a Japanese tatami mat room going back which was nice and a western style room going in. beer prices are reasonable...
