They must get some big storms here
Nov 2019 • Friends
The breakwater structure is massive in size and strength. You can climb the stairs next to it to look out over the sea. There are also dome artforms nearby to examine.

Nothing much to see
Sep 2019
Besides it's monumental structure and the purpose for it's construction, there's nothing much to see. The side view seen in most photos is the best view it has. No literature or any supporting infographics is present on site.

Good for morning jog.

You can walk here from the JR Wakkanai Stations, climb up the stairs and look at the harbour and the surrounding port. Perfect spot for early morning walk.

Remarkable architecture
Aug 2019 • Friends
It is a quite remarkable architecture in far north.

I really did not imagine to find this kind of architecture designed by a bureaucrat. I should think that he got lot of freedom in this far end place of Japan without distractions.

Not sure its effect, however, it is still standing firm so it should do its mission.

Breakwater Dome
Jun 2019 • Couples
This is great to see but you would only spend 10 minutes here. It is an engineering marvel to stop the heavy tides from breaking onto the shore.

Just concrete
Jul 2019 • Family
Worth 10 mins of your time nothing more. Really scraping the barrel to make this look a worthwhile thing to do in Wakkanai.

Quaint Structure, Worth Checking Out
Aug 2017 • Couples
Quite worth checking out if you have a bit of time in Wakkanai. It's basically on the outer edge of the inner center and thus easy to walk to from most hotels.

Stand Out Architectural Structure
Jul 2017 • Family
The breakwater dome is a few minutes walk in a easterly direction from the main train and bus station in Wakkanai. It is an impressive architectural structure, which is over 400 meters long and 13 meters high. It was built in the 1930's and a visit here is a must while in Wakkanai. We saw quite a few persons camped under the dome with small tents . There were great views of the ferry terminal and the sea coast.

There are two monuments near to the end of the breakwater dome, which celebrate the shipping route between Wakkanai and Russia. This site may be visited in conunction with Central park, which is at the northern tip of the breakwater dome. There are quite a few sitting areas in the park, which has a few statues and provides a great view of the dome.

Interesting structure
Aug 2017 • Couples
Short walk from our hotel is this breakwater dome. It is structurally interesting. Views surrounding the area was beautiful. There was an open field in front of it that can be used for exercising or a stroll.
