Think you would really need to be in to art to think this is spectacular. The Picasso area was disappointing. And the Symphonic Sculpture was closed. Like all modern art, some things caused you to wonder why it is even considered art - or why it is museum worthy.

This was probably the best experience in Hakone for our part. The sculptures are beautiful and scenically placed in the lovely surroundings. The Picasso exhibition blew us of our feet - it is not that it is the biggest one I've seen, but it is pretty impressive and nicely presented. Don't forget to use the hot spring foot bath! It... Visited in a cloudy rainy day ,and this is an open air museum and most of the art show outside , It was beautiful ,the clouds gave the pieces of art a unique expression. The cherry on the cake is the Piccaso museum . To visit the whole museum you need 2 hours. It is one of the places you... More

If you stay in Hakone for just one night, or even a couple. you roll the dice as to whether or not the weather will cooperate for viewing Mt. Fuji. For us, the stars did not align, and our less than 24-hour trip to Hakone was cloudy. When we arrive at Odawara station (the nearest major station before entering the... More

This. Is the largest collection of Henry Moore sculptures that I have seen. The landscaped hillside is great for the presentation of the art but could be a challenge for those who have mobility problems; it is very hilly. Definitely an outstanding of World Class Rank! One building is devoted to Picasso potttery, prints and paintings. This is a must... More

The Hakone Open Air Museum was amazing, never did I think that I would see such beautiful works. Just strolling around was lovely, everywhere you looked there was something tat caught your eye. There was a foot Onsen for those who needed to give their feet a treat. We had lunch in the cafe, service was a little slow, but... More

We recently visited the Hakone Open-Air Museum. Sadly for us, it was raining quite hard, and was rather chilly on the day we visited. So my actual experience was not 5 star, but the museum itself is definitely 5 star, especially when you include the spectacular ride on the Tozan railway up the mountain to get there. It is about... It is great as the art is more hands-on. My kids loved the art they could walk through, climb through and imitate. We had lots of fun, and could stay for hours.

The museum was low on our list of things to do, but we decided to squeeze it in, so glad we did it was amazing, the art was fabulous, do yourself a favour and go, they even have a hot spring area where you can sit an soak your weary feet.

Really enjoyed visiting the museum. Beautiful grounds, charming gardens full of blooms and great interactive art for adults and children alike. Suggest a visit and stroll around while in Hakone.
