There is a lovely scenic view as you ascend, with cottages and rolling hills appearing constantly. The train has a few stops along the way and do not be surprised as the train changes direction frequently at stops.

If you paid ¥1880 (Round), you can go to the world of yellow steam ! It takes about 18 minutes from Ashinoko ( Togendai).

Exploring Hakone is an exercise in planes, trains and automobiles. It was nice to view the countryside from above and interesting when you were arriving above the Ōwakudani volcanic valley with its active sulphur vents. If you buy the Hakone free pass, this ride is...More

Nice ride in good weather. If you are lucky, you will see Mt. Fuji. Use the stopover on the peak to get some black eggs

The views are great and they didn't pack too many people into the cars. Can get quite hot on the way up with no a/c. Views are fantastic and the sulphur activity looks huge from above. Not too smelly when we were there. Didn't take...More

Took this as part of the Hakone Free Pass that we bought for 4000 yen from Odawara station. This takes you from Gora to Odukawani where you can see the sulfur volcano and eat black eggs. Good views.

In a quick ride you experience both the amazing views of Mount Fuji and close views of the power of volcanism. Take the rides in the early morning to get the clearest views.

Twin cable car gondolas over the top of the mountain before going over the top of the steaming vents and the half way point where you change rope ways. Very good geo museum which explains what is happening. Used the venting steam to heat water...More

If you are doing a roundtrip of the Hakone valley and mountains then you should take this. You will see incredible views and it will get you up towards the go thermal area.

The easiest way is to take the Romance Train from Subuya station. It departs from the upstairs platform and is a quick ride to Hakone main station, where you change to the local train up the mountain. The trains depart... More

I think it is very safe. But one of the stop has a very strong hot spring smell, so I would be safe to check with your OB first. The rope is very safe but long ride.
