I am staying in Yokosuka for an extended period, and I enjoy Verney Park at least 3 times a week. It's very clean and attractive. Unfortunately, there is garbage in the water, so I don't look there. It's across the water from the Yokosuka Navy Base and Japanese Defense. Visiting Japanese are often taking pictures of the ships. There are beautiful roses that are carefully tended. When they bloom, it is exquisite. Many people walk their dogs here, and it is fun to see them, because they often are better dressed than their owners.

Awesome place for a run or walk. Beautiful views. Adjacent to an Aeon shopping mall and Starbucks for a post-hike snack.

I took a rest here after 45 minutes tour of Yokosuka Gunkou Meguri, it's close to Shiori terminal of Gunkou Meguri so you can easily walk to the park and get a view of the port. Peaceful with a lot of green and flower, but no big tree thou. Not so kids friendly because no playground for them. Just grab a drink or snack and slowly enjoy the view of it, one more wonderful thing is the 16cm main gun of Mutsu battleship displayed here. And you can also get a relly nice view of Izumo here.

It is a gorgeous little park that sits on the water, overlooking both the Japanese and American fleets. It's gorgeous gardens and landscaping give you a feel of peace and beauty in the middle of a busy city! If you have a chance to come during Cherry Blossom Season, it is a perfect photo op!

The local New Year's Eve celebration was held in this park, and we enjoyed ringing in the New Year by watching fireworks on the water with the area people.

Verny Park is a great place to relax and take a stroll, sit to view the harbor, or simply breathe in some nice sea air. It's about a five minute walk from Shioiri Station and great place to bring your children. I visited this park when the roses were already at its peak. It's definitely a great respite place to just unwind and literally smell the roses. At the other end of the park is the Daiei Shopping complex with great stores and many resturants and snack shops.

Very beautiful! You could see the navy ships and submarines, and beautiful flowers and easy to walk. There were benches and many kids.

We visited the Verny Park a couple of times on our way to the train station. It is very well landscaped with lots of benches to sit and enjoy the view. You have great views of the Navy ships both US and Japanese. Nice place to enjoy the sun and read a book.

Verny Park was named for the French engineer who designed the Yokosuka arsenal/ironworks. Apparently, this was the location where many western "firsts" took place. The arsenal was apparently a tourist attraction and was the first spot in Japan to institute, among other things, a 6-day work week. Anyway, the part is somewhat narrow as many have observed. But, it's a well-manicured, peaceful spot by the water. From the park, you can see many ships (DDGs and SS primarily) of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force. The US 7th Fleet base is also visible but none of the US ships are visible from the park. The park has a museum to Mr. Verny but I didn't have time to go. The Japanese also salvaged one of the 16 inch guns from the Battleship Mutsu. The Imperial Navy's Mutsu was the world's first ship to be equipped with 16 in guns which became the standard on many subsequent classes of battleships. The Mutsu suffered an internal explosion in 1943 and sank. The gun is quite impressive! The park also has a number of memorials and monuments to Japanese warships. And, the original shipyard gates are still in position from when this area was part of the Japanese base.

The park is situated along the waterfront between Daie Mall and Yokosuka JR station. The park is named in honor of French military officer and naval engineer François Léonce Verny, who played important role in the construction of Yokosuka arsenal and military industrial infrastructure of Yokosuka during last years of Tokugawa regime and Meiji revolution. There are the monument and museum dedicated to him in the park. However, the most interesting thing in the Park is that it is the best place to see the warships. Despite the fact that Yokosuka is famous for being the main advanced base of the American 7th fleet, American ships from the Park are not visible. All ships belonged to the Japanese naval self-defense forces. The results of the spotting were the latest Japanese helicopter carrier Izumo, which the Japanese decided to convert into a light aircraft carrier with an air group of deck "Lightnings" F-35B and 3 Oyashio-class submarines, the body of which is made with the use of rubber noise-absorbing elements.
