With a tip from another reviewer that the Himeji ticket including the gardens was only 1040 yen (as opposed to 1000 yen for the castle alone), we were all in. I love a good garden, and this was no exception. Much less crowded than the...More
We walked down from the Himeji Castle imbibed with its quiet majesty and eloquence to our next destination the Koko-en garden. From the outside it seems rather unremarkable yet the moment we walked through the gate we were greeted with flaming maples from both sides....More
These gardens are just a short stroll away from Himeji Castle.
When purchasing the castle tickets for a mimimal additional cost one can also visit these Japanese Gardens.
Ensure that you visit both attrractions as both the castle and the gradens are excellent.

Going to the gardens in winter may seem like a silly decision, but year-end is our only time to travel, so we still decided to visit it.
A lot of the plants were bare, and there was not a lot of flowers to see, as...More
Can add it into your castle ticket! Seriously worth walking the extra 250m when you leave the castle to go and have a look! Superb gardens and very pleasing to the eye, so many different scenes of gardens too see, not just one.
