A visit to Milimoto pearl island costs ¥1500 for and adult and you need to spend about two to three hours to make the most of the visit. There is a demonstration in English at twenty minutes past the hour and to be sure of a front row seat it is necessary to be there at ten past the hour.... More

I spent 3 hours looking through the museum. Lots of information for the uninitiated (me!), regarding pearl oysters, types of pearls, the culture process, the cultivation of the pearl oysters, the how to tell the difference between cultured round pearls and fake round pearls, the transformation of pearls into wearable jewels, and the grading of pearls. Another section has exhibit... More

It costs 1500yen per person and we spent a good 2 hours there. The pearl museum was educational and there was a memorial hall museum of the late owner of Mikimoto Pearls. We also watched the women divers demonstration available every hour. A good place to spend your time in the sleepy town of Toba.

We were impressed by the "women divers" who kept performing diving deep for the pearl collection in a chilly day. The Mikimoto shop displays stunningly beautiful and expensive pearls. Although I did not buy any, it was a pleasant window shopping.

If you are in love with pearl, you will like it. There is an exhibition explaining how they cultivate pearl. There is a show how they pick up pearl which I think it is the most hi light activity in this pearl island. There is also a small garden at the back where you can enjoy the weather.

Enjoyed and learned here. I've learned how pearls are farmed. How the way was invented. Who is the inventor, Kokichi Mikimoto. What are the difference before and after the invention. Also, Ama-san, lady diver, demonstrates how they catch sea shell from the deep down the ocean. Nice jewellery for demonstration and for sale. Nice.

My 3 sisters and I visited on a chilly, rainy day but we're still treated to the demonstration of the women divers - it is an interesting bit of the history of this area. We had great fun going through the museum and ultimately choosing the best piece of pearl jewelry for each of us, Knowing where it came from... More

Ignore the poor reviews, you have to be a very stupid person to not enjoy this museum. I spent a good two hours reading about how pearls occur naturally and the pearl culturing process accompanied by interesting artefacts, examples, pictures and videos. The museum is split into a ground floor with information on how pearls occur in nature and how... More

We didn't do enough prior research before taking the full day pricey tour from Kyoto to this island (combined with Ise Jingu Shrine visit). There were only 3 of us in the group accompanied by a guide. Didn't expect to find a modern, large complex including a museum, pearl shop and exhibition platform showing hourly demo on how traditional female... More
