I toured a bit in the area and would make this one of my top two places to see if you were short on time. I didn't see another shrine like it across my many visits to shrines in Nara and in Kyoto because of...More

It was so far the best shrine we visited in Nara. Very peaceful at noon so we could find a bit of peace here while wandering around. Highly recommend!

From the moment you start approaching the Shrine, you already start feeling amazed by the ancient atmosphere of the stone lanterns. It is a beautiful shrine with hundreds of lanterns and a dark room filled with mirrors that will leave you breathless.

A very brightly coloured shrine with a lot of small shops selling traditional Japanese good luck charms. The shrine has a relatively narrow pathway with quite a lot of up and down stairs which were tough for some of our elder group members .

My wife and I visited this place as part of our Tour of Nara Park. We have found from our 2 weeks in Japan, that most of the Japanese people are deeply religious.

Kasuga shrine is, by itself, not very large object. But park / approach and hundred of stone lanterns, in combination with the beauty of this shrine are, without doubt, must see.
