His Buddhist statues were all carved from wood with many overlaid with gold. Amazing that so many have survived. Quite detailed and creative.

Prior to visit to Nara Park, we also paid visit to the National Museum with exhibitions on Japanese Buddhism. It was an impressive collection particularly with the help of audio guide explanation all the way round.

If in Nara park, take the time (30 min max) to see the treaures inside the musuem. I was fortunate to be there when an extensive collection of Kai Kei was on exhibit. So well worth the entry.

We ended up spending hours in this museum reading all the information and exploring buddhism to a level we had never experienced before. Good activity, but no photos allowed inside.

We were awed by the different statues of Buddhism Culture. So many were displayed. II wrote them down so I can google them after. Awesome!

Unless you're very into Japanese history, or there's a special exhibition, but for an average tourist, this museum is quite boring. With entrance fee of ¥1100 this is a waste of my money and time.
