Montgomery Place, a serene reflection of nearly 200 years of continuous family stewardship, is best known as a landscape influenced by the great Andrew Jackson Downing and an architectural landmark designed by Alexander Jackson Davis. But the totality of the estate - house, gardens, arboretum, woodlands, orchards, hamlet, and natural features - makes it a unique American treasure. The 380-acre property is an amazingly intact example of Hudson Valley estate life. Each of the estate's features has a story to tell about changing American attitudes toward nature, landscape, and home design over time.

It's a simple quiet place but it's inspiring. The docent's are adorable and informative. There are many things I saw that I would love to have or copy. The views are spectacular, it's a great place to take photos.

Lovely estate on the Hudson with long history of women who "made it happen". We couldn't tour the house (only on Saturday) but walked the grounds and gardens using a well delinieated map. Be prepared if you have mobility issues. No alternatives but to walk...More

We wish we could've gone into the house, since I am descended from its original owner and have been touring all the Livingston homes. But we enjoyed the park, views, and the trails. Especially enjoyed unexpectedly discovering the waterfall while hiking.

Montgomery Place is a great place to take a walk along carriage trails, view an elegant mansion, and enjoy the views of the Hudson River and Hudson Valley. Just south of Bard College, Montgomery Place is a 19th century estate with level trails and a...More

We found this by accident. It was listed on one map of the Hudson River Area. There was a little pond that was just full of bullfrogs. We walked to the waterfall and the bay. While the grounds were not as dramatic or spectacular as...More

We went on April 27th which was a lovely spring day, with the trees just starting to bud. That was good because it allowed a good view of the Hudson River, the negative was that the mansion was not opened until May 1st, but the...More

Great place to bring the family. Pretty hiking trail, one leads to the Hudson river (very quiet spot) -- I've taken time to sit and just watch the water. During the spring and summer, the mansion is open for tours. I also love the walk...More

This review isn't as much about the mansion as it is about the grounds. I'm not a big fan of walking around empty mansions, unless they are part of a really compelling history. But a nice stroll through the grounds takes you to a beautiful...More

We visited Montgomery Place in late fall and thus the leaves were down and while perhaps not as lovely as in the spring, the barrenness of the trees afforded a wonderful view of the Hudson River from all areas around the building. Wonderful walkways, formally...More

I know Montgomery Place was just purchased by Bard college, so I think the hours may have changed. I know tours used to have to be booked in advance. I would call Bard college to inquire further.
