You can walk to the top of Shiroyama instead of taking a bus. It takes 30 - 40 minutes, but it depends, of course, on how fast you walk. It is a good hiking course.

Nice view and easy access by city bus. A footpath allows to walk down to the city. Worth a stop on the way to the gardens.

we left Kagoshima by the local ferry to mount Shiroyama.This volcano is active and is always erupting,so care must be taken.There are shelters to take cover in don't think they would be any help if it came to the big one the views are outstanding...More
