From the port, next to the aquarium we took the 15 minutes ferry-ride to the Island around 9:30 in the morning. As we planned to use the public transport in Kagoshima City in the afternoon, we bought a "Cute Pass" for 1200 yen per person...More

We hoped to see Sakurajima, an active volcano, erupting about 1000 times per year, just across the bay from Kagoshima. It would have been a spectacular sight indeed, but weather conditions were far from optimal; it was pouring with rain and visibility was almost nil....More

I was arriving later in the day to Kagoshima and had less than 24 hours—so I don’t expect to do much or have time to do any sightseeing. But, it was much easier to get to Sakurajima than I first expected. The ferry dock in...More

In Sakurajima, each area has different lava from different age, so plants diver. And most of all, we can see different figures of the volcano from different points all over the island. That's why I want you to try a go...More

Very small neighborhood here, not really for tourists but good for travelers, experience and taste the scent of town. Nice atmosphere, with very urban-people. Giving you a peace of mind.

Beautiful scenery around this still active volcano. If you get the chance make sure you do the coastal walk around It! We were lucky enough to see it erupt as we took the ferry to Kagoshima! Well worth the visit!

Had a great day today cycling around Sakurajima! Started to the east on the flats and then worked hard on the hills the rest of the way, with a stop at the foot baths at the end. You can rent bicycles for 300yen an hour...More

Unfortunately the day we went there it was cold and raining, but even with that weather it’s interesting to know the place.
