Umi Jigoku is quite well developed, with a quaint Japanese lake garden near the entrance and a small greenhouse with tropical plants just off the main path. There is a cafe and shop right next to the pool, where one can have snacks and a...More

The highlight of this place is a giant hot spring where you cannot go in and take a bath. You can tell it's really hot so don't try it. However, there are some smaller hot spring towards the left where you can bath your feet....More

Undoubtedly the most sophisticated one of all seven Hells. Nicely located in a small park and including a restaurant and a very nice and rather big shopping location where you can buy all kind of souvenirs. Although there is a shopping possible at the last...More

Went to all 7 hell and this was the nicest. There was a #8 hell but it was managed by a different company so we could not buy the bundled tickets (and we did not go). Umijigoku was the nicest among the 7 because it...More

Well, big puddles. I went here on the way home between rain showers and I'm glad I did. I've been to a few of these hot springs and this one was surprisingly good despite the rain. Worth a visit if you haven't seen anything like...More

Instead of purchasing the reasonably-priced combination ticket (2000 yen) which allows visits to every "Hell", we concentrated our time on three. The adult ticket costs 400 yen and is a round sticker featuring a Beppu Devil which is a cute souvenir. The other "hells" that...More

I think this hell is the prettiest of all the hells. The lakes are absolutely lovely. Don't miss the greenhouse where the gases emitted are used to nourish beautiful plants.
