We visited on a very hot and humid day in October this year. It took a bit of finding as we are non Japanese speakers (we went past it twice before realising where we'd gone wrong!). Once there though we had a great time. The houses are lovely to see and there are plenty of explanations in English. It's great... More

We decided as we were in the area to call into the village but took quite a while to find by car as we could not find a sat nav code, entrance charge I thought on the expensive side, and you do have to pay extra for other things once inside crafts, dressing up etc.. Fine to look around the... More

The village has a peaceful atmosphere. The must is the monkeys (very small ones). They are very cute. You can give them special food and they come and jump on you. You also find old houses and mangrove. We went a day while the weather was not so nice and we really enjoyed this time.

A great cultural insight, but I was there for the monkeys. Such an amazing experience! If you're keen to have 6 or 7 monkeys crawling all over you, this is where you MUST go!

Ishigaki Yaima Village has moved and rebuilt several traditional island houses in a lovely park setting on the coast near Kabira Bay. Homes of a fisherman, farmer, and merchant are represented. The houses are fully accessible and have traditional furniture and implements of the owners on display. There is a modest amount of signage in English. There is also monkey... More
