Nice scenery and good place to understand the history and culture of Matsuyama. Month of May is beautiful weather to visit. Take a tram to stop at Okaido station, walk to Ropeway (10 minutes) and take the Cable car or chairlift to the Castle. I found Chairlift is more fun and convenience. It is actually quite safe as there is... More

I loved this Castle. Well preserved and well presented with lots of bilingual signage. The trip up on the ropeway is fun and the view from the tower is wonderful.

This is a wonderful castle perched on a hill with spectacular views from the top. There was an exhibition of Kimono art on and it was superb artwork. The refurbishment which is on going is so well done and it really gives you a feel for how they lived when it was built. The people working there are friendly and... More

Absolutely awesome engineering, defense design, carpentry, architecture, history - you name it. I read every single information plaque on the grounds - some humor here, but the point being it is a very interesting piece of history. It has ties to Hideyoshi and, somewhat more loosely, the Tokugawa shogunate. Cannot speak highly enough of the architecture and defense engineering. You'll... More

We opted for the cable tram to top and back. It includes entrance inside the castle. Good price as the Castle sits atop a hill. Last visit we walked the steps up to it. Better choice this time. The grounds are beautiful in spring with Sakura blossoms.

I was impressed by the White Heron, but this was far more impressive. We approached quite early, and the castle continues to emerge from the mist/fog as we got closer revealing both its size and grandeur. A number of the exhibits are quite beautiful, though the sight of my 6'4" son trying to squeeze into the samurai armour was a... More

If you're out of shape or have health issues, take the ropeway chair or tram (separate few from castle admission). Even after the ropeway, it's an uphill walk but the views are AMAZING. Castle is also a museum and worth the reasonable admission fee. Snacks available on the exterior grounds. This was my 1st trip to Japan, but son who... More

This is must see in Matsuyama. After climbing hundreds of steps and marveling at the craftsmanship and civility of the place go to the Dogo Onsen for a hot soaking bath.. In reading the descriptions of the gates and their history and restoration I wanted to find someone to collectively apologize to for the US incendiary bombing air raids in... More

The castle itself is disappointing from the view you can have to Matsuyama to the part that are really authentic. I don't recommand visiting it.

This castle is one f the few original castles left. It is filled with great historical items and definitely has the feel of old Japan.
