A very impressive castle surrounded by cherry blossom trees in bud and with a few early flowers.lots of wonderful walls , interesting gates and good explanatory signage along the way. Great views from the top if you have good knees!

Great historical place to visit. Remember to try on the samurai costume and have your picture taken. Has a great view of the city.

Well worth the walk up to the top rather than the chairlift. Huge and fascinating complex, all rebuilt following WW2 sadly. You definitely get the feeling of what it would be like hundreds of years ago - the signage and descriptions are a little patchy in English.

Nice place to have a great view of the city, and not too far away from downtown. You can choose between two different kinds cable car to get to the top. Walking all way from top to down is a great fun, the garden is beautiful and the air is fresh there. This is a must go spot when you... More

Great castle and provides great views of the city and the sea beyond. It would look even more impressive when the Sakura are blooming in spring. Fun way to get taken up part of the way via cable car or chairlift. A must do in Matsuyama

Matsuyama Castle may not have the grandeur of the more famous Himeiji or Kumamoto castle, but it is firmly my favourite Japanese castle. Walking through the several intriguing circles of defense & gates, one can imagine how formidable this castle was to the past invaders. Apart from strategically located openings for defenders to shoot arrows or firearms, there were also... More

Iyo-Matsuyama Castle retains one of 12 original main keeps in Japan – it is a gem of a castle with a vast complex of structures and defensive works. Taking the winding route into the Tenshukaku (main keep) was an exhilarating experience in a scene unchanged in 400 years! I stayed in a hotel opposite the castle moat and could see... More

Fab castle which towers above Matsuyama and is accessed via either the chairlift or cable car. Lots of steep stairs inside but the climb is worth it.
