Ritsurin Garden is a superb cultural asset that conveys the characteristics of the daimyo strolling gardens that were typically seen in the 17th and 18th century. A daimyo strolling garden is a type of traditional Japanese garden in which ponds and hills are expertly constructed over a vast tract of land, and you can enjoy the garden's space as you leisurely walk around inside.

Takamatsu is not a city that sees many tourists (this may change with more flights coming in) but it is a city with its own local charm. One of the cannot miss sights is Ritsurin Garden, which appears to be classically Japanese in so many...More

Ritsurin garden is a nicely landscaped Japanese garden easily accessible by train from Takamatsu Station. It is actually located in the middle of the city, and one can see some of the modern buildings in the background. One of the highlights we enjoyed was paying...More

I found this garden extremely disappointing. It was a nice place to walk through but I have visited many nicer and more spectacular gardens in Japan. Had tea at the tea house but it was full of tour groups so noisy. It isn't a tea...More

This is a very pretty garden. We had the boat trip in the lake around the south part of the garden. We were lucky that we had an English boatman (yes, English, not only English-speaking) elaborating the different special aspects of the garden. Trees were...More

A quite large garden with a long history. We went in September and the major features were the trees and ponds. A pleasant was to spend an hour or two.

Possibly the most impressive Japanese gardens that I have been to and definitely the largest. Stop for a macha and a sweet at the Kikugetsutei teahouse. Spent most of the afternoon there and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

I recommend you to take a walk in this garden in the rain, although the garden is beautiful even when it is fine. In rainy weather, the green of trees, lawn and lake shine more beautifully, and creates a mystical atmosphere. The...More

One of the prettiest gardens in Japan. The Garden is quite big, divided into North & South parts on the map. The heart-shape shrubs in the middle of the lake was absolutely beautiful.
