Before they built the Seikan Tunnel to Hokkaido ships conveyed passengers and vehicles to the island. It is interesting just to walk around the port area and the facilities where they loaded the trains on to the ferry.

Our cruise ship docked here and the greeting and send-off we got from the people at the port was great. There is a lot of open space and a popular walk amongst the locals.

If you want to get away from the shops, then go down to the port area and enjoy a walk that enables you to see many sites including a suspension bridge and the cone light house.

The bus from our cruise ship dropped us at he main port area. There are plenty of helpful stalls and guides ready to help. Good central location from where to explore the city.

Aomori Port was conveniently located near JR Station with many tourist spots in the neighbourhood. We have strolled along the walkway next to the waterfront, paid visits to the museum and A Factory before reaching the train station for our onward journey to Hirosaki Park by train. The walk was peaceful and relaxing and took about half an hour under... More

We docked at the Port of Aomori on the cruise ship Crystal Serenity. We had a nice welcome when we docked. There are several major attractions such as the Nebuta Festival Float Museum and the Seikan Ferry Memorial Ship Hakkodamaru within easy walking distance. You walk right under the bridge to get to there.

We returned from our Hirosaki park visit by JR line just after lunch and dropped into the Aomori tourist bureau again. The supervisor who speaks English was not able to advise of anything to do. It was Monday and museums and Art galleries were on our list for Tuesday . It is the second week of May. So we filled... More

The site description is a bit vague - the port itself is just a typical place and nothing extraordinary jumps out. But depending on how you define a port, the port area is where many of the top things to do are so one way or another, you'll definitely end up at the port.

There is a nice boardwalk and pedestrain bridge next to a big bridge at this port which blends in with the surronding very well. I just love the design and enjoyed strolling around here very much!
