Designed by Toyo Ito, the glass facade provided a good connection to the city and the internal structural forms enabled flexible spaces to be created. What’s really impressive about this building is to see the various spaces being used by the community. There were various...More

We were expecting to see some events or performance at the place but to find out that only the library was open. The vast space at the ground floor where the entrance to the building was empty. Very disappointed.

As well as the architecture, the cool cafe and shop, there's very often interesting events on the ground floor, and exhibitions on the top floors. From my experience they welcome "foreigners" and will show you around etc.

....particularly if there are some exhibitions on. Good example of modern architecture. Visit this place while at Jozenji Dori.

If you are one whom loves the Architecture & Structural aspect of buildings in different countries, this is somewhere worth going to take a look but not for the book worms as most of the books are in Japanese.

Not sure why this is a listed attraction, it's a library that's mostly glass. It's out of the way and not overly appealing to look at. Redeeming quality, some cool stuff in the gift shop.

In terms of architecture, no doubt it is the destination to go in Sendai. Designed by architect Toyo Ito, it has beautiful views of the city from its interior and, from outside, the trees from Jozenjidori reflected on the glass are just astonishing. Also good...More

A building to commemorate the 3.11 earthquake in 2011. Worth a visit if you aren't doing much. A nice cafe within you can relax and absorb the atmosphere. It's also a public library! Opened on 2011 May 3rd to commemorate the impact. The designer Toyo...More

This facility is a lovely place to relax and meet friends and enjoy diverse art installations. I really enjoyed the range of great gifts that were available in the gift shop and having some tea at the pleasant coffee shop. If I lived in Sendai...More
