This is a marvellous cathedral, and my visit was infinitely enhanced by my guide, the knowledgeable and erudite Dennis Keen. The history is interesting, of course, but the story of its domination and regeneration during and after the Soviet regime is quite extraordinary. The icons...More

Located in Panfilov park, the church is beautiful and the park is a wonderful place to walk around and relax. Entry is free; women have to cover their heads with scarfs. Best time to visit the church is during later afternoon, the sun shines on...More

Beautiful orthodox cathedral in the middle of a park. It was simply beautiful from outside. There are several horse-drawn vehicles outside which the children tends to enjoy riding at. Relaxing at the park outside is good if the weather is not very hot.

Nice small cathedral if you're looking for Russian Orthodox church. Women will need their heads covered with a scarf but that is provided at the entrance.

The old wooden Russian Orthodox Cathedral built more than 100 years open to public to come and worship. The interior decoration is amazing and beautiful. The park outside is a good place to hangout and relax.

This old wooden cathedral is one of the only buildings left standing after the earthquake in early 1900'erds. It is newly restored and very beautiful.

Ascension Cathedral in Panfilov Square in Almaty is a grand cathedral that is open to all to come and worship. We poked around inside admiring the architecture and stayed for a service we did not understand but enjoyed anyway. Beautiful setting, peaceful house of prayer.
