Interesting history but not really much to see. Very little info at the actual monument.....and it's not even in it's original location. The walk and path not very well maintained... and a fairly hefty charge... probably better viewing it from a boat.

My wife and I went back to this pillar in August 2016 after last visiting it in 1987 and there was nothing new except that this time, there was a small fee of US$ 1 per person to see the pillar. Once you have taken your photos, there is nothing else to do other than gaze at the ocean horizons.... More

The view was amazing, the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks was calming and just made me want to stand there all day. There is a plaque with a brief history of the pillar which is useful, especially if you do not want to hire a guide.

Why on earth Vasco da Gama chose to come ashore here is beyond me. The Pillar does not improve the site one bit. It's the ultimate " Why did we bother going there" destination and they charge you money!

I read the other reviews before visiting. We bought a ticket for the pillar, museum and church. It was a good relaxing afternoon. The pillar is built from limestone, not concrete, as one reviewer said, and paying for a ticket (500ksh) lets you walk right up to the pillar and enjoy the view/take photos - I could not see how... The site was quite breathtaking, seeing the vastness of the indian ocean and the beautiful history behind it all. Worthy stopover whilst in Malindi

We visited in about 15 min and liked it - we paid 300 ksh for one of the official guides to give us a 5 minute history of the area. Pretty cool photo opportunity and nice view of the bay!

Taken here by our regular Tuk-tuk driver and I thank him for that. Not much to do but admire the spot and learn the history. Great photographic value
