And interesting place to visit for tourists in Johor Bahru, but don't plan to spend a lot of time here even though this temple made it to the top 5 things to do on TA. We made it a stop on our travels from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur. The temple is very small for the RM10/pp admission. It took about 15-20 minutes to walk around the place without a guide. There are glass (mirror) decorations throughout the temple which are interesting. The outside is covered with scaffolding which hinders any nice photos and diminishes from the look of the temple. There is an additional charge for pictures taken inside the temple.

It appears that this Temple is intended for tourists than a place for worship. The temple is interesting, with glass ceiling to floor, as well as glass icons - religious and historic. Be aware though that there is certain fee when you enter the Temple, and they would ask you for some amount when you want your photo to be taken while in the Temple.

An iconic Hindu temple that stands out from others for its shimmering beauty, both figuratively and literally. As the first ever glass temple in the world, this shrine has gone from being just a place of worship to a must-see attraction. Shining in all its splendor. The Temple is one of the oldest Hindu temples in Johor. Founded in 1922, the temple has seen some pretty drastic changes in its history. It began as a humble retreat donated by the Sultan of Johor, and was later rebuilt as a simple temple by Guru Bhagawan Sittar. It was only during a trip to Bangkok, Thailand that the Guru had the idea to renovate the inherited temple into its current dazzling grandeur. He had come across a glass work of art at the entrance to a wat in Thailand and was completely entranced by the invention. Impressed by how the small work of art was able to capture his attention even from afar, the Guru was inspired to use the concept of glass designs in his temple. Today, the Glass Temple looks just like any other Hindu temple from the outside. But inside you will be dazzled by the spectacle of its internal walls. Nearly every inch of the temple's surface is inlaid with glass mosaics: over 300,000 pieces of red, blue, yellow, green, purple, and white glass, to be precise. Spot columns, walls and ceilings fully embellished with sparkling mosaic glass - said to be imported from Japan, Belgium and Thailand - create a festival of bewitching lights. At the Athma Lingam Shrine, inside the fully air-conditioned temple, there are also 300,000 mukhi Rudraksha beads from Nepal gracing the walls. Every single rosary has been meticulously incorporated with the chanting of prayers. The centerpiece of this special shrine is a lotus for Lord Shiva, where devotees can perform their prayers and rituals. Looking up at the ceilings, you find majestic crystal chandeliers adding to the already glittering interior – a truly enchanting sight. Along the lower sections of the ceiling, there are ten sculptures finished in gold, each figurine representing different stages of the life cycle. As a symbol of respect for other religions, this Hindu temple has 10 white marble statues representing figures from different religions, including depictions of Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ and Mother Teresa.

Amazing... what more can I say? We showed up when they were closed but the son of the founder was onsite with workers renovating parts of the temple. He graciously took us on a private tour of this incredible temple. When we had finished they not only advised us on an incredible Indian restaurant nearby, but they also offered to drive us the short distance to it as they said it would be easier than getting a car there to pick us up. Dont miss this one.

Disgraceful place. Not a place of worship but rather a money making tourist centre. As a non Indian Hindu not only was I discriminated, I was even told by the priest that because he assumed I’m not a local, I have to pay a RM10 tourist fees! Sad to say but Maa Kali no longer resides in such a place nor does she condone such practices. There are so many other more welcoming Hindu temples in Johor than this scam of a place!

The Arulmigu Sri Rajakaliamman Glass Temple is a Hindu temple and reputedly the oldest in Malaysia. From the exterior, it’s an innocuous looking South Indian style temple with a gopuram. Inside the temple looks far more elaborate as it’s completely decorated in glass and glass mosaic. The decoration looks heavily influenced by Thai Buddhist temples, except that this temple has taken the glass to the extreme of having the glasswork everywhere. Other than the eye catching glassworks, the temple is fairly typical of Hindu temples with statues of deities dotted around the temple. Surprisingly, the temple also has sculptures of figures from religions including Christianity and Buddhism.

Overall, a pretty temple with eye-catching interiors. The temple is to the north of the city centre and can be a pain to get to, especially if walking. I thought it was worth it nevertheless.

Wow, this Temple really is a must for anyone travelling to Johor Bahru. Won't go into too much detail, that would only spoil the marvel that awaits you. But the complete interior of this temple is glass. It truly is a marvel.

The Arulmigu Sir Rajakaliamman Glass Temple is magnficient. From the outside it looks like some of the other temples in Johor as there are carvings on the outside and, if you look closely, there are some in the form of pregnant women. This is important because of the reason of the temple.

it costs 10RM to enter and it also cost .5RM to have a shoe locker...however, we didn't have to pay for it and the attendant smiled and told us we could use our camera in certain areas. Another man walked us into the temple and told us where we should not use our camera.

We were stunned by the beauty and the fantastic craftsmenship of the temple. It was brilliant and gorgeous inside.

There are many altars and there are statues of leaders of different religion including Jesus and Mother Theresa. It was surprising to see other religions and the statues.

We took a lot pictures, bought a bracelet for my girlfriend (all money goes to donation to keep the temple from being destroyed) and then asked one of the men to take our picture. He ended up taking about 50 pictures of us all over the temple, including a few places that we were told not to take pictures, and was incredibly nice.

He, and a few other of the men, were there from India and were on a 2 year program to work at the temple.

I recommend this temple without reservation and make sure to talk to the people working there, buy a bracelet or something, and spend time out here and just enjoy the quiet and peacefulness of it.

I visited this temple due to the hype surrounding it. The temple is not centrally located and you need to access a slip road to get to it. Upon arrival, you will find that it is not a very big temple. The entrance is small but once you enter, you will be greeted with grandeur. Everything, and I mean everything except the floors are intricately laced with millions of coloured glass and mirrors most of which are only 1 square inch in size. As the other reviewers put it, this attraction is best viewed at night. You will find that this temple does not only host Hindu deities. And if you must take photos, you will be levied a fee. Unless you are there for worship, your visit should not take you more than an hour tops.
