Counter staff at Mersing who helped with the booking was friendly. But the fairytale ends there when the ferry came. Ticket was 11am @ Tekek and I arrived at 10am as per ticket checkin time. Ferry arrived at 10:40am. Boarding took awhile for unknown reasons everyone was jammed at the door. I waited for que to clear before I board hence I was the last few to board. After getting on the ship there was no seats?! They have to go up and down and squeeze me in between 2 big sized person and I effectively have half a seat, not to mention our party was split up since there was not enough seats. After waiting for like 1hr they decided to ask everyone to take out their tickets and surprise!! Tons of people have NO tickets and yet they managed to get through at least 2 rounds of checks? And they have a seat while paying customers don’t? So they collected cash from some customers (Chinese and Indians) while letting some move upstairs without paying?!(Not Chinese or Indian) So the nonsense continues for another 30 mins before setting off. I came to the island on Cataferry and the ride took 1hr 15mins so essentially we waited at the jetty when we could have reached mainland. Not to mentioned now that the ferry is over capacity, it is travelling slower. There was another ship wawasan which was boarding customer when we left Tekek and when we reached Mersing, Wawasan passengers already disembarked. Also, if you feel that the tropical weather on the island is too hot or humid, fret not! AC will make you feel like you are in the Swiss Alps

Not very good in Timing. Check in proses taking ages. I would say the over all proses is not well organise. However the staff are really friendly

My ticket time is 1pm from tioman to mersing. 6 of us are walking and saw the ferry 12.25pm. Our dive bag have reached early. About 12.30pm the ferry have depart and didnt follow the timing on ticket given. We’ve called the mersing office. The very rude lady which I assume customer service told us we have to pay for additional ticket to tg gemok if we want to still board on ferry. We said we are not late. She said next time you have to be 1 hour early, it is not their fault the customer only 30min early. And then she called the captain of the board. She said while I’m still on the phone “this customer is stupid because don’t understand what she said” it’s not their fault that we are 30min early not 1 hour early. She said if you want, the captain can pick you up but you need to pay rm10 each to the crew which is rm60 total. I’m quite surprised because it is not our fault yet we still need to pay. We are Malaysian, we just thought what would happen if foreigner or traveller encounter this and they could miss their flight for this ignorant

Poor customer service at Tekek jetty
Very confusing entrance, no sognage or anyone to help

The ferry is freezing cold, why must the AC be so high?!?!

Overpriced
No toilet on board
No cafe
Just freezing, ice cold air to sit in.

We travelled on Bluewater as part of our return trip from Tioman back to Mersing. Firstly the ferry we travelled on Wawasan I is so dirty! I couldn’t find one seat that was either full of Stains or full of cigarette burns. No smoking signs throughout the cabin, but gaps in seat frames are full of cigarette butts! The toilet is dirty and doesn’t flush! And it seems that the staff leave random and downright dangerous items around the boat including a knife being left on a ledge outside the toilet.

Customer service is bad at tekek, the check in counter guy, yelled and upset over boarding and queue questions. I was asking couple of time to the other girl, she was polite, asking me to wait. They will call for boarding, i was with 30 people, family trip, everyone is anxious so when to them to confirm time, boarding and queuing time. Suddenly, the guy next to her started yelling, "this is only check in counter. Not when u asked about boarding time at what not. Just go inside. And wait to be called". I was stunned, i said OK, and started to queue with my family. But I could resist to think, and felling upset over his remark. You are working in service industry, have a bit of decency to be polite and attentive to customer. I am not asking for butler service. Asking for some guide and direction.

Also, no aircond in the ferry on the way back to mersing, they open the entry door.

Please do not consider this ferry services . No matter what happen (etc weather , personal ,or they internal issue ) They will not proceed refund . The money once you transfer means troll to the sea . There is no more chance to get back . Please beware

My friends had all boarded the ferry, and I was the last of my gang, with a big diving bag.

As I reached the ferry, I saw a few other dive bags on the jetty near the front of the boat, and a guy signalling me to bring my bag there. I asked if he needed help with 2-3 other big bags i saw, still on the Jetty, he said yes, so I helped pass those bags to him, which he then put inside the ferry.

I then passed him my bag last, but he put mine on the front deck of the boat instead. I had some frozen products in there for a friend on Tioman, so I asked him if he could put them inside the boat instead. He said sorry, but he will have to charge RM20. I asked why, he said because "Ferry ni untuk pelancong dan pakaian saja", which i'm sure you'll agree is total BS.

I said i would come to the front of the boat to take the products out, and he said "tak boleh. Kita mesti caj. Boleh tanya supervisor". Some other guy walked by, and confirmed that they have to charge.

Not wanting to ruin my trip before it started, i grumpily passed him RM20 and said "Whatever la, ambik saja". He then put my bag somewhere inside the ferry. The ferry, as you can see from the shot, was CRAMMED beyond belief (look at the width of the seats), without the slightest attempt at social distancing. Sitting outside, or in the open-air portions is also not allowed.

Just 30 mins into the journey, the boat stopped in mid-ocan for about an hour plus, which we later found out was because of engine issues.

About 3.5 hours after our departure (2 hours longer than normal), we arrived at Paya, the 2nd of 5 stops on Tioman, each at which, the ferry drops off passengers and bags, and picks up ppl wanting to make the return trip back to the mainland. My stop was the 4th stop, ABC.

I was looking out the passenger cabin window, and saw my bag on the jetty as we were leaving. I hurried upstairs to the captain's cabin, to tell them they had dropped my bag off at the wrong stop. One of the guys in the cabin asked, which stop I was supposed to disembark, and I said ABC.

Suddenly, the same guy that I had passed the bag to initially shouted at me from the corner.

"YOU KATA PAYA TADI! YOU KATA PAYA! JANGAN BOHONG!"

I was starting to get angry. I didn't tell him which stop, because I assumed the stickers they gave us would indicate which stop we were at. I told him I NEVER said Paya. And that I gave him RM20 to take care of my bag, so this is fkin unacceptable.

Another guy jumped to his support. "YA AKU DENGAR, DIA KATA PAYA!"

At this point, I was furious, and responded, "FKYOU, I never said PAYA. JUST TAKE THE FKIN BAG BACK ON THE BOAT"

The guy points a finger at me responding "OH,.... nak FAK YOU FAK YOU. JOM FAK YOU!"

He was in my face, and I could feel my fists clenching. I don't get angry often, but this was a guy who i initially helped to carry bags off the jetty, who shook me down, and who was now calling me a liar.

Then I felt hands on my shoulder pull me back into the passenger cabin, and closed the door behind me. It was an old DM named Mike, who said "Chill bro. chill. Not worth it". He then talked to the people thru a slit in the door, and I saw thru the window, my bag come off the jetty into the ferry once again.

Mike calmed me down, and once again, I decided not to ruin my trip, possibly both ways.

Later, i told my friends downstairs what had happened, and thankfully they were vigilant because at the 3rd stop, another one of their bags was being carried off the boat, until she stopped him.

Given our experience, I'm sure many of you have lost bags in Tioman before. So please be vigilant, and join me in insisting Bluewater ups their level of service to something above shaking down customers, and calling them liars.

Dirty old boats, unpunctual service. From how the boat looks, traveling seems to be unsafe, I do not recommend it. First and last time.

Logical once you understand the organisation. Get your ticket. You can do that online for the official price of 45 ringgit one way via one particular website or via some other websites at a premium. You can even book when the shedule is not known yet; it will be available a week or so before the start of the month of travel. Plan to stay a night in Mersing if necessary; there are some nice and cheap hotels available. Alternatively turn up and buy a ticket at the newly opened Mersing Harbour Centre. In high season or on the weekends this may be difficult.

Pick up your ticket at the Centre. Have it registered to your passport and get a boat number on the ticket. Pay your marine conservation fee and pay your tax if the fee and tax people are around, which is not always the case.
Then get a coffee or breakfast or lunch at the café in the Harbour Centre. It's good. Make sure you cross the street to the actual jetty in time (say at least 45 minutes before the scheduled departure time) to get your boardingpass. Don’t be amazed if the ferry is not leaving in time. Expect to wait anywhere between 10 minutes and 1,5 hours because the ferry may not leave at the exact hour. The ferry may be old and small or new and big. The small ones may stop occasionally for unknown reasons. Once on board expect extreme air conditioning, so come prepared with a sweatshirt or shawl. The trip will take about two hours.

Tioman Island is worth the hassle!
