The first ferry I took from Kuala Perlis to Langkawi gave me a startling deja-vu moment as some of the instructions on board were in plain Finnish. This large body catamaran must once have served between Helsinki and Tallinn and been sold and ended up here by a long vouyage through the Mediterranean and Suez Canal. Our crossing to Langkawi... I took the ferry from Kuala Perlis about an hour.It is air conditioned and comfortable. There is a ferry from Penang that takes about three hours and not recommended for those susceptible to sea sickness. The fares are reasonable

It is free to take as many bags as you want on board and any size. Do not let the baggage handlers outside the ferry terminal fleece you of your money. They will try to lie to you that you cannot take certain sized bags on board. This is not true. Also, if you read the other comments on TripAdvisor,... More

Don't leave your luggage in the rows 0-50 ... mine got soaked through my waterproof bag (waterproof, except the hole where the zip joins). Spent an hour at a laundromat, which I probably needed anyway. But I was amazed at the amount of water in the downstairs cabin. Apart from that, very efficient.

You can buy the tickets at any time when you go.We bought also the tickets for the way back at 4600 rm a person. The good thing is that you get a chair number,so you don't have to be afraid you can't get back.On board you can buy a small assortment of s crisps. And water. The trip takes about 1 hour... More

In 2001 I walked away from this exact speed boat service thanking my lucky stars and saying never again. Back then I thought it was an accident waiting to happen. Much to my horror as I walked my young family down the boat ramp in Feb 2017 it was the same type of speed boat; prob the same one looking... More

All other comments are true, its not a dreamtrip but if you prepair yourself it is manageable. The trip for us on a normal day (no waves, sunshine) took 4 hours so take a book with you and take the morning ferry to be sleepy and have some sleep on the way. Also bring water and some food, a sweatshirt... More

This is a two & a half hour trip on fast but dated boats: with seating like that on an aircraft - ie all seats inside, all seats full, just the corridor as public space, just a toilet as facilities, no food, no drinks. Sure, it's cramped if you are tall & don't know how to get an extra legroom... More

Not as expected. Small, extremely cold for whole of journey, and locked into two cabins for whole of journey. No facilities other than a toilet. No safety briefing, and no sign of any crew. Awarded two stars as it is an affordable way to reach Langkawi. We will be flying back to KL.P

Took the ferry from Kuala Perlis to Langkawi, one hour. Penang to KP was 2.5 hours, nice scenery and bus stops close to the jetty - short walk.
