Busy & Colourful
Sep 2020
I have heard so much about the market. So, my partner agreed to visit the place with me. We parked a distance from the market & walked for about 10 minutes before arriving by foot. There were so many people outside the market.

Pasar Siti Khadijah was officially opened in 1985. It has 4 levels in an octagon shaped building. The main attraction of this market is due to the majority of its sellers or traders which are women. Hence, it was called “Siti Khadijah”, the name of Prophet Muhammad’s wife who was a wealthy business woman herself.

We walked til we saw the centre of the ground floor. You can find many wet items such as fish, chicken, meat & vegetables. However, since we arrived quite late in the afternoon, many sellers were busy packing up.

We took the stairs up to the 1st floor. The 1st floor is dedicated towards the selling of dry items. Amongst the many items is serunding, a local favourite. Serunding is floss which can be made from various protein source such as chicken, meat or fish. It is usually spicy & sweet. We stopped by a few shops & bought packets of serunding & fish crackers or “keropok” in the national language for our families. We also saw many local sweet Kelantan desserts being sold & sellers selling real & fake gold jewellery.

We ventured to the 2nd floor where non-food items were being sold. We bought a couple of “batik” material & a “songket” for my father. “Batik” is a technique where wax is being applied on a cloth to make designs. “Songket” is a hand-woven piece of fabric consisting of either cotton, polyester or silk as the base material with gold or silver threads.

I was able to bargain & the seller was kind enough to let me pay online instead of cash for some of the purchases. Happy with our purchases, we decided to leave before more damage is being made to our bank accounts.

Local Market with Vibrant colors
Jun 2020 • Family
The market was full of stuff. Local authentic stuff. We bought some local spices, local delights & clothing textiles.
.
The place has 3 floors. On the ground is where the wet market it where they sell fish, chicken, vegetables & fruits. If you wish to buy dry food stuff goes to 2nd floor the price is more cheaper at the upper floor. Local spices like Kuzi, kari & etc2 can be bought there.
.
On the 3rd floor is the place you can buy textiles. Local textiles & stuff.
.
On the second floor we tried the local food at the food court. Cheap & tasty.
.
Overall its a local market. Good place to buy local items.

Nice pace to feel the vibes of Kelantan. Visiting here makes me proud as I saw all the sellers are women. I am proud to see these amazing and strong women working hard to put food on the table

Colours Sights Sound & Smell
Mar 2020 • Solo
Wet and dry market all in one. Being an equatorial country, markets in Malaysia is hot and damp.

This market is multi-level and sectionalised. The most colourful is the vegetable section and the batik fabric section. Within the upper levels are eateries, dry food section, groceries. At ground level do visit the gold souk.

Get the birds eye view of the colourful display from the top level.

Whats unique? Traders are mostly women and steal a glance at the many gild jewellery they wear. Mind you, thats their FD and easily trade-able for gaps in cashflow, I kid you not. That explains the thriving gold shops along the main street opposite the market.

Adjoining this market is the Pasar Buloh Kubu. Its a bazaar mostly trading batik apparels and fabrics.

Worth the visit for the experience.

Great cultural experience

Awesome place to feel the vibe of Kelantanese culture. There is no better place to visit in Kota to get that buzz.
Visit all floors, talk with the traders and show genuine interest in what they do and the rewards will come naturally.
Get there early to feel the pulse, it will not disappoint.

A must see
Jan 2020
This is sort of a must see item if you're in Kota Bhuru, however that said, if you're claustrophobic it's not a good place. Very crowded, stall and hot, but lot's of stuff to look at and some great camera opportunities
