We arrived to Deerland on the way from elephant sanctuary (2 km from it). It was a bit of a strange experience. A zoo keeper gave us a bowl with food to feed a group of deers in their pen and an ostrich. There were also some other type of tame deers, including a tiny mouse deer. The keeper also 'introduced' us to sleeping hedgehogs, lizards, a ferret, an albino 2 metre long python, some types of parrots, quails, chickens, peacocks and other birds. As far as we could see, animals were relatively well looked after, however, there was no sign of sun bears. Some parts of the park was closed off, so all in all, we spent there about 40 minutes. Fun for kids (and some adults too).

Our guide for the day stopped here en route to the Kualah Gandah Elephant Sanctuary, and it was an unexpected stop for us, so we really didn’t know what to expect.
It’s very cheap to get in. It initially seems quite small, but as you walk around, you realise it is bigger than it seems. It’s like walking through a mini jungle.
We got to feed the deer and stroke them. There’s quite a few Bengal cats that loved being stroked. We all got to hold a Burmese Python, which took some doing for me, but I was determined to do it. There were also ostriches, chickens, guinea fowl, peacocks there, plus rabbits. We got to hold a bearded dragon too.
It seems like a family run place, and I think with a bit of extra money it could be improved, but it’s still lovely as it is and we really enjoyed ourselves there and would happily go back.

After disappointing visit to Elephant sanctuary at Kuala Gandah, finally Deerland make up our day....
The admission fee is very cheap.
You can feed the deer and touch some other animals there including snake.
Good for young kids. But I think if the government can make this place better, this place could become a new tourist destination.

We chanced upon Deerland Park enroute to Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary. Decided to drop by for a visit after our visit to the elephant sanctuary. It's a very quaint, rustic and I would say, pretty impressive park given that it is privately owned by a family who is passionate about animals. As it's now off season and late in the afternoon, my husband and I seemed to be the only visitors there. We had fun feeding the deers and walking through the rustic park. Nearing the exit, we thought the sheltered area was a souvenir shop. It turned out to be a reptile exhibit and mini petting zoo with guinea pigs and rabbits. My husband was delighted when he saw a huge iguana on the bench and he just went forward to pick it up. Then one of the owners appeared with a huge, 20kg python on his shoulders and asked if we would like to hold it. Of course my husband happily accepted his invitation as it's his dream to handle a huge python! So Deerland Park actually gave us some unexpected surprises which turned out to be the highlight of our excursion from Genting Highlands.

The Deerland Park is a kind of mini zoo and petting zoo. I visited the park as part of a package tour to Taman Negara. As other reviewers have mentioned, some of the enclosures are depressingly small and cruel, while the enclosures for rabbits and deer looked okay.

When our driver told us we'd be going to Deerland and that the main attraction was a 'honey bear' my partner and I had immediate doubts and pushed him to tell us more about how he is cared for and his living conditions. Our driver assured us it was fine and that we would not be seeing any mistreatment.
The second I saw the beer my heart broke. The owner was distracting him by feeding him sugar cookies and honey - even making him lie down and pouring honey on his belly to make him lick it. We were told to pat the bear and his coat was so sticky and the skin on his stomach, chest and underside of his legs was irritated and had clearly been untreated for a length of time.
We were then told that this bear needed a break. For the next half hour while we were at the zoo he was left in his pen in full sun with no water. He was pacing and clearly uncomfortable. He had no where to bathe and no 'regular beer food' to eat. The bear was so overweight I can't help wondering if he has ever been fed food from his natural diet.
There was also female bear was in a tiny cage and also clearly distressed. According to the owner she is 'aggressive' so they don't let her out.
What I saw is haunting me and will be reported to WSPA.

I went to deerland as part of a tour to the Elephant orphange and so therefore it was not a planned trip. It has to be said, given the choice I wouldn't have gone, and really wish i hadn't. i found it rather upsetting.
The deer at deerland were perfectly happy, as were some of the other animals, however I found the attraction of feeding a male sunbear with honey mixture, whilst the female was locked in a small cage, disturbing to say the least. These are wild animals, and certainly shouldn't be kept in small enclosures and overfed to allow for tourist photographs "with the animals". The monkeys were also quite obviously distressed and in cages far too small for them. Their pacing round in circles was distressing. As was the fact the bear cub had been separated from his parents and so was isolated and without stimulation. These are intelligent creatures and require stimuslus to stop them getting depressed. I'm sure the keepers did love the animals, but they don't have the correct facilities to care for them.
I found this place really sad and refused to have my photo taken with a bear. it just felt too wrong.

Visiting this place was unfortunately part of our Kuala Gandah Elephan Conservation Centre trip.
Most of the animals are kept in very small cages without species specific enviroment. Reptiles were in tiny terrariums where all of them couldn't even move properly. Very sad place to see for an animal lover.

I find it difficult to imagine any 'positive' reviews on here are anything but propaganda by parties with a vested interested in this park.
The negative reviewers here are correct - I've written elsewhere regarding this park and can't believe nothing has been done about it yet. The deer seemed to be okay as they're relatively easy to care for, but the captive bears just bring tears to the eye. When I visited they also had lots of domestic-type house cats - though feral I think - living in cages! Also a couple of small monkeys (macaques) in miserable little aviary-structures with no stimulation whatsoever. It just broke my heart.
Who could ever think this is acceptable, let alone 'fun' to visit?!

I have no idea why would anyone underrate this place!????
It is a privately owned place and has NO fund from the government. A Malaysian man and his children who care about animals decided to have this small place.
How often do you have the chance to feed a deer and touch it?
How often do you have the chance to play with 2 huge pythons at the same time?
Among the many things we did in Kuala Lumpur and the parks and zoos and caves we visited, this place was the most impressive to them because they had the chance to interact with animals with no barriers.
On the other hand, I had a chance to talk with the owner's son (Pipi) and he a very polite and helpful young fellow. He elaborated that his father is not doing this for business, and the entry fee is so cheap. Most of the operations costs of this place goes out of his own pocket and salary that he gets from another work. He said they cannot make a big marketing on this because they don't have the intention to make it a business and they don't have the enough resources to handle large number of visitors... I DO respect and appreciate that and hence they deserve an excellent rating. If this place was to be funded by the government as it is then there could be a different evaluation and rating but for a privately held facility at limited budget spent from a salary this is AWESOME!!! and I recommend you take your kids to see it. The deers were sooooo friendly and sooooo lovely to caress and hold them while feeding them. if you are a snake lover then you will enjoy holding those human friendly huge pythons for as much as you want. I swear they got more patience than any human hehe with all the noises of kids and disturbance they get and yet they are so cool with it.
Yes, this place deserves all the appreciation and best rating and worth not only the visit but a lot of donation too.
I was shocked and disappointed to see others underrating the place.
Sadly, they had a bear and the government took it away from them.
I certify that this review is based on my own experience and is my genuine opinion of this establishment and that I have no personal or business relationship with this establishment, and have not been offered any incentive or payment originating from the establishment to write this review
