Enjoyable but very muddy

We did the trail yesterday. The employees of our guesthouse told us that the path has been closed for over a year. Needles to say we didn't take their word for it. They run a tour company too, so I guess they just want to discourage people from doing the activities on their own. Navigating the trail is quite easy - jut get yourself maps.me app and a phone with GPS and you're all set. If you can't get those, there are dozens of small yellow reflection signs nailed to the trees along the path + occasional red-and-white ribbons. Moreover there are several large yellow signposts marking the checkpoints (they contain GPS coordinates and emergency contacts among other information). If you have ever been to a forest and pay attention at least a little, you can't really get lost. The start of the trail is arguably hardest to find (without maps.me). It diverges from the main road to the right about 70 metres before the water facility and it heads straight up to the deep forest. There is no official sign marking the start here though only a letter attached to a tree saying the path was closed during rain season (till the end of January). Most of the trail is just regular hiking, however, the last part - going up and down from Gunung Brinchang Barat (the first hilltop you encounter) - was steep and very muddy. The trail ends at the gate blocking the way to Gunung Brinchang (you can see the Mossy Forest parking lot from there on the right). You can easily climb the gate (and it actually wasn't even locked) and reach the top in ten minutes. It took us nearly four hours to finish the trail, but we were stopping often and aren't particularly fast hikers in general. I figure one can easily make it in under two hours. We met just one other tourist along the way. The way down through the tea plantations was a real treat!

Really enjoyed this place - the walks and the forest and the views over the plantations and the rolling hills - really lovely and highly recommended.

We did the path no 1 in Dezember 2019. We used the maps.me offline card to navigate. We hitchhiked from Taha Rata to the start point. It was quite easy to find the start of no 1 with the maps.me navigation.

The hike itself is not easy. A lot up and downs, climbing over fallen trees. At some point were ropes and we were happy to use them.

This path guided you through jungle, the mossy forest and you also have to walk through a small river.

You don‘t see any tea plantages on the way up.

And some point we‘re not sure if we were still on path no1 but after 4 hours of walking we ended on the parking place of the mossy forest and hitchhiked back to the city.

Ps: There are some signs at the EXIT that the path is closed from November - January... but yeah we saw the sign after we did the path and everything was fine.

I was happy to read the review from June, motivating me to try the trail 1 although everybody says that it's not possible to hike.

We hitchhiked to the end of Brinchang, walked up the street as shown in the maps.me screenshot. Then after a slight left turn of the street (before the water plant) go up steeply on the right side. You can then follow the way from maps.me shortly, but you'll see pretty quickly that the path is splitting up from what maps.me says. You will go around the water plant (it's on your left) and follow the pipe on the ground. Now the only tricky part - the pipe will finally lead you back into the water plant area. Before you continue, there are footprints on your right steeply going up again. You then will find a new way, again following a pipe. From there on you cannot do anything wrong, the trail is super easy and regularly marked. The landslide in the end is not a problem at all, it's getting a bit more muddy the last few meters. You will finally arrive at the fence of the TV Tower station. Go around it on the left and (you're still in private area, so dont rest at the small hut) continue the street until you are at the parking lot of mossey forrest. You still have to pay the entrance fee to enter there.

It took me maxmimum 90 min, didnt watched the time unfortunately.

Going down might be trickier because you have to enter the private and forbidden TV Tower area. If you are coming the way I did, you will never pass a warning/restrictive sign... But even though workers saw me on the area, they were really friendly.

I really recommend you to take that way, it's nice, you dont have to be scammed by the tour agencies and if you ever hiked in a forest, the trail is no problem for you.

Hope I could help you, Cheers!

After reading the reviews here i went for it today , for the second time, my first visit was in 2015 , the entrance is hidden way more than before , i had to trespass inside the water treatment plant , and the there were workers inside the facility and ignored them and they did the same , the fence was broken in the end so i went to the jungle, I found the flowing water in the picture and I started looking from there , you have to go left and you will see the Yellow ribbon so I followed, it took me 15 minutes to find the entrance, then i saw group of 3 just started to find the way , I shouted at them about the way up , that saved them some time , the trial need more foot print , in the end you have to go around the fence of the communication towers and trespass inside the facility , the red sign you see in the picture that was after I exited the facility, I simply opened the door by myself, then walked down through the paved road to the tea plantation and then back to the city , I asked some locals about why it hidden this way , they said the want people to visit the fake mossy forest with its high entrance fee , the trial not closed , it was risky and didn’t know what may go wrong, but in the end of the day i had fun and totally worth it

As of mid-April 2019, trail 1 is open & accessible. As stated in previous reviews, the entrance to the trail can be found at the back left of the water treatment facility. NOTE: the men working at the facility might tell you it's closed. Say thank you and proceed anyway. (It seemed routine for them to say that and they didn't kick up a fuss.)

Follow the pink and yellow ribbons. The trail is quite clearly marked.

NOTE: near the top there was a hefty landslide. The original path literally fell so completely off the side of the mountain it's enough to cause vertigo. However, there is a loose outline of a 'path' (trail of access?) that leads over broken branches and turned up earth. This is safe but definitely requires all fours.

From there, the trail proceeds neatly to the antenna station at the top. Enjoy!

We went here yesterday. Although the start was very hard to find, we eventually got there. The trail is closed because of danger. There is barbed wire at the entrance, and signs saying you get fined when you do go in. We did go in though, but it was a pity. There are no marks where to go. First we went wrong. When we finally found the trail it was too dangerous to go through. We went back and took a cab to the top. The Brinchang viewpoint was closed as well (although we could go to the mossy forest). If you want some advice: take trail 10 and go down with trail 6! It is wonderful and leads you right through the tea plantations!

As the other reviews said, it is very hard to find the entrance of the trail: you need to enter the water treatment plant and then on the right, you can see a fence. This fence is weirdly not going right to the end of the area so you can get on the other side of it and go up a very steep “path”. When you nearly arrive at the top (roughly 100m later), you’ll join another path going on the left and on the ridge for a while. You will soon start finding some yellow signs on the trees. From this point the path is very clear and well indicated to the summit - which aren’t the antennas but the mossy forest so don’t expect to walk to the antennas.
The trail is worth the effort. It’s very beautiful and the vegetation is very dense especially at the end. Also note that the end is quite surprising as it goes downhill, uphill, downhill ... we thought that we were on the wrong path but no, that’s normal ! Enjoy the walk :)

This trail might very well be out of service, the entrance and exit are very hard to find and badly maintained. We ended up finding the entrance in Brinchang behind a water treatment plant (Februari 2019). The plant is almost all fenced but if you walk all the way to the back there's a fence down and the trail starts there. Since we figured this is definitly is not an official entrance, there is no signage and the first 100m are quite steep/hard. Follow the pink ribbons that are hanging down trees. After you find the old tracks the pad is clear and doable. Eventually you'll be high up and get an amazing view right by a land slide. After that it is about 200m more, but the track is not maintained. This is the hardest part, you will have to duck and sometimes crawl your way trough the jungle. You will end up at a telephone antenna that is also fenced. To get around it you will have to get a lot of plants and trees out of the way, and be careful not to touch the barbed wire. This is tough but if you're out of the fenced area there is a paved road to Mossy Forest. We could get a lift back to brinchang from there. We did not see a lot of wild life and the track is badly maintained, therefore 3 stars.

In spite of a lot of people saying otherwise, the jungle trail formerly known as 1 is open as of the 21st of december 2018. It is now known as the brinchang barat trail.

It's a very difficult trail of about 6,3kms and 600 metres of climbing through the jungle according to our gps data, getting harder and harder near the end and ending at mossy forest. Took me and my girlfriend over 4 hours to finish the trail, even though we are very fit. We had to climb over a landslide that had taken place not too long ago, just to give an example. Bring good shoes, water and supplies and start early, because you can get lost easily. The trail is clearly marked with yellow reflective signs on the trees, but it's easy to take a wrong turn.

The forest is amazing, and well worth the effort. The moss-covered trees are so soft you almost want to hug them. The view from Mt. Brinchang is quite something. The mud on our trousers was too.

There is lot's of confusion on tripadvisor on where to start, and even if you ask locals, they say the trail is closed. Read the instructions below carefully to find the start. Lots of people say you should start behind the huge water silo. Don't! The path used to start there, but is now permanently closed due to landslides and fallen trees.

Instead, at the Y junction before the water processing plant, take a right and climb up a steep path on the right side of the road. If you see stairs going up the hill with a sign saying "notice" on your right, you have walked too far.

I uploaded a photo from our GPS data so you can find the approximate start. It's the fourth image, showing our way up to the water plant and down again as well. Have fun and be careful!
