This was my first time experience discovering some mosques in Ipoh. All this while, when we talk about Ipoh, first thing comes in our mind is The Lost World of Tambun. Strategically located in the middle of the town and near to the field, this mosque has some unique properties which make it different than Masjid India in Masjid Jamek.

The tin industry not only attracted Chinese workers and investors, also the Indians moved to Ipoh in huge numbers. This immigrated population group, mainly consisting of (originally) South Indians of Nattukkotai Chettiar descent as well as Punjabi’s, now predominantly lives in the area from Jalan Sultan Yussuf to Jalan Lahat… also known as “Little India.”

Masjid India Muslim: Besides temples and churches, also a mosque is brought to Ipoh to not leave any deity out. [Free]

This mosque caters for the small South Indian Muslim community who practices the Hanafi fiqh (the Malay majority practices the Shafii fiqh). The Fajr congregational prayers starts late at 6.15 am. The sermon is delivered in Tamil.

This is a fairly small mosque, attractive enough, near the Ipoh Padang and the St Michael's Institution. It might be worth clicking a few pics as you walk past. I didn't go past.

Masjid India Muslim on Ipoh Padang is a mosque for Indians and more specifically Southern Tamil Indians. It was built in 1905 during the town's boom period, due to huge tin deposits. Many of the workers were from Southern India and a mosque for them was necessary and so the interesting architecture copies their home style.
