About
Once an office, hotel, and home of many families, two shophouses built in 1900 fell into disrepair over the years. After an extensive conservation process, they have been given a new lease of life, and is now home to 22 Hale Street Heritage Gallery. Nestled in Ipoh’s historical enclave, 22 Hale Street connects the past with the present. Discover the history of Ipoh and her people in a fun and interactive way as you tour the galleries. Check out the products in the gift shop and bring home exclusive merchandise and publications. Also, on display are creative products and crafts by local creatives and social enterprises that 22 Hale Street aims to support. The gallery also has an event space open for rent where exciting arts and culture initiatives happen!

- Road890251 contributionHail to Hale St for a wonderful trip down Memory Lane!Beautifully curated and arranged, this exhibition brings us back to the glory days of old Ipoh and its tin mining history. Many wonderful items of memorabilia to savour slowly... I enjoyed it more as an ex-student Shimron whose wife was responsible for setting up 22 Hale St. gave me some inside scoop about some of the artifacts.Hi Road89025, Thanks for leaving us a review. Glad to hear that you had a great time with us at the company of Shimron. May the memorabilia brings back fond memories of the past as we journey through this challenging times. Wishing you well and good health in this time of pademic.Written 24 October 2020This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited July 2020Written 22 October 2020

I was led by two guides and they were both super friendly, knowledgeable and humourous. I learned about the history of Ipoh, and I got to see some great artwork on display in the museum too. Definitely would recommend this visit.Hi Adelynne, thanks for leaving us a review and being our first ever customer on Airbnb! It was a pleasure to bring you on a private tour. It was one of the fun moment we had bringing guest on tour. Thanks for sharing the drama that you watched on Netflix and the the tin mining tycoons being like the Chinese version of the actor (oops I forgot the name of the actor 😂). - SuzieQ188 contributionsAt night @ Hale StreetWandering around Old Ipoh town, 22 Hale Street is beautiful at night with wall murals and subtle lighting. Ideal for photographers, artists and creative projects (day & night). Lots F&B shophouses and hawker street food to suit everyone. Riverfront hotel is nearby, ideal walking distance for visitors. Parking is very limited in Ipoh and taxis are best way to see Ipoh besides cycling and walking. Not many e-scooters in Malaysia due to heavy traffic and lack of cycle lanes.Dear TrulyFoodie, Thank you for your honest review! Air-conditioned and beautifully restored little museum that tells the history of the site and also some Ipoh history. It’s walking distance from the 2nd Concubine Lane so plenty of eateries nearby. RM 10 entrance ticket.

Good starting point to learn about Ipoh and tin mining history. Pare it with IpohWorld and a walk down Concubine Lane. Or a good rainy day activity for an hour. Cost RM10 for an audio guide which didn't really work well and you get as much info just reading the plaques.

Two old shophouses from the 1900s adjacent to each other that have been conserved to be an event space furnished like a house from decades past with old furniture, gramophone, telephone, and other displays. Also photography documentation on the conservation process. On the first floor is a heritage gallery, where admission is by ticket (self-tour or guided tour).
Not many changes to the general space once you have been here unless there are events or exhibitions. A major supporter of social enterprises.

I came in here mainly to escape the rain and was pleasantly surprised. It was 10 ringgit with the audio guide and a lovely old place to look around and learn about the history. Alot of old antiques to look at and take photos. The staff are really nice too.

There is some really beautiful Peranakan furniture and pottery. This is a must-visit. Be sure not to miss the toilet - there is a reason why the toilet won an award.

This was a fantastic visit with a tour guide to narrate the history of Ipoh. Our guide, Ashley, is extremely knowledgeable and made the history come to life with her narration. Thanks so much for the great work!
