We only had 1 night here on our way to Cameron so upon arrival after a shower we headed into Old Town.
Similar as Penang but less vibrant, I guess the signs of recession also are hitting Malaysia.
Anyway we had and enjoyable walk and were able to take some good shots.

Very recent the Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic has added 7 murals in Ipoh this to celebrate Ipoh's Old Town as the birth place of the famous White Coffee. To make it easier on ourselves we took a taxi and asked the driver to take us to the latest 7 murals. We were lucky with this driver he took us on a guided tour around Ipoh which included - of course - the latest : Trishaw, A "Kopi" break, Girl on wall, yellow hummingbird, Bags of "Kopi", paper plane, Tin mining. There are many more and it would take at least 2 days to see them all. Whilst looking at these murals do not forget to walk past the Old Railway Station, magnificent restored to its former glory and the old clocktower. There you will see high up 4 lovely paintings, no not by the Lithuanian artist nevertheless beautiful! We would not hesitate to recommend this as you will also pass many lovely heritage buildings. Seniors can do this "viewing" too but do it with the backing of a taxi. I doubt if it is something children would enjoy.

Recently opened downtown are 7 murals by the Lithuanian artist Zacharevic. The can be found along Jalan Panglima, Market street, Jalan Timak, Concubine lane 3(what is in a name?) Jalan Sambaathan, and Jalang Padang. Also unveiled was a map detailing all 7 murals at hte Old Town White coffee outlet. The painting are inspired by the artist's journey through the country and can be seen as a tribute to Ipoh Old Town, the birthplace of white coffee. Best is to start at the tourist office. There are more murals to come and... there are already other murals. Justs follow Japanese tourist and you will find a mural of Marilyn Monroe, painted above a real metal bike. In the same small street there are other nice things...

the mural basically represents malaysian culture and heritage. i like the idea of painting traditional dance/music of malay, chinese and indian as the tradition is almost forgotten in modernization. though they are not 3D mural street art like in georgetown penang, but there is value of the art. the mural is also vibrant and colorful which also make them more interesting. other than cultural things, the mural features ipoh in the past. tin mining activity is one of them. people who loves photography will enjoy this.
*just go across the street from this mural street. You will find colorful buildings which turns out nice in the photo.

Plenty of mural art paintings along the streets. Instagrammable photos against the blue sky. Go early in the morning as there is no shade at all and gets very hot during the day.

In order for you know the murals, you have to know the places of mural. Walk slowly and not sure check with the shop owner. Some of the murals is behind the street, inside the shops, on the big wall, etc. If tired, buy some drinks to enjoy it.

The location Ipoh street arts back alley is opposite the rainbow-colored shops along of Jalan Sultan Iskandar Shah (Hugh Low Street) in Ipoh town.
GPS coordinates (N 04 35.613′ E 101 4.923).
Alley filled with colorful wall paintings, there have many cultures of Malaysia:
Lion dance(Tarian Singa)+ Dumming, Flat Horse dance(Kuda Kepang) + Shadow puppet(Wayang Kulit), Hindus celebrating Thaipusam Festival,
Traditional Indian dance + instrumental music, men at work + workers the rubber plantation & etc.
I'm sure all these will make you recall back to your childhood memories kids of 80's Malaysia with a pinch of cheekiness with popular games
children skipping & hide-and-seek, games the Eagle catches with chicks,Children's game blowing bubbles.
Definitely enjoy the trip in Ipoh!

I've attached a map because we only came across it after searching and asking people. It's hot and you end up walking around like a headless chicken otherwise. They are worth seeing and a lot of fun taking photos with. The whole point is to attract tourist back in old town and go to their restaurants. Looked like a quite a few nice ones around but we didn't get a chance to try any.

Hi,
May I know is there any good home-stay near by this ipoh mural art trail?
Written 11 November 2015
It's in the middle of town, so the restored houses in concubine lane are the closest you are likely to find to a homestay. Not many people live in the town centre. There are a lot of budget hotels in Ipoh too, but I don't know of any up there near old town.
