The Ipoh Railway Station, a historic landmark designed by Arthur Benison Hubback and affectionately dubbed the "Taj Mahal of Ipoh," is a must-visit destination in Perak. This heritage spot not only serves as a transportation hub for Keretapi Tanah Melayu's ETS services but also boasts an architectural splendor that captures the essence of Malaysia's colonial era.

The station's picturesque setting offers excellent opportunities for Instagram-worthy photos, complemented by its proximity to iconic landmarks like Padang Ipoh and Birch Memorial Clock Tower. Padang Ipoh, a historic playground, and the elegant clock tower are testament to Ipoh's rich cultural heritage and vibrant past.

Located conveniently on Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab, the station provides easy access to various attractions and civic institutions, including the Ipoh Main Post Office and Ipoh Town Hall.

Overall, the Ipoh Railway Station offers more than just transportation—it's a gateway to Ipoh's history and a symbol of the city's enduring charm. Don't miss the chance to explore this iconic landmark on your visit to Ipoh.

Visited this iconic building this morning.Fantastic British architecture, mor impressive from the outside than the small inner area.
However spoilt by filthy walkways outside the main building covered in cigarette butts and pigeon dirt.If you want to attract tourists get it cleaned up and MAINTAIN it!!

Without question Ipoh Railway Station (1914) is an impressive piece of colonial architecture, but it is nowhere near as striking as its magnificent sister in Kuala Lumpur.
In my opinion the real magic at Ipoh Station happens when you pass through the original building and into the platform area. In one single step, the traveler moves seamlessly from the old and nostalgic to the ultra-modern. The platform area is a vast tubular steel structure covered with a sweeping curved roof that is bang up to date. Unfortunately, access to the platform area is now only permitted to those who hold a valid ticket to travel – rather like an airport.
The old Majestic Railway Hotel itself has tremendous potential, but is in real need of an investment infusion. Close up, it seems simply unloved.
There is an impressive public park in front of the station, and in the evenings the colourful fountain light show is free. Car parking can be a problem whenever a train from KL is due to arrive.

This morning I arrived in Ipoh by train and after leaving the station I immediately took a Grab; so I could not see how monumental this station is built in the partly Moorish and partly Victorian style. I went back in the afternoon to see it more accurately: the facade is all white. I can say that it is one of the most spectacular examples of colonial architecture in the city.

Ipoh's railway station is an elegant, encompassing structure that somehow exceeds the size of the city. It marks the past affluence of the former mining city. Functionally and aesthetically, it is valuable to Ipoh. The historic downtown is within walking distance.

Wished they maintained this placed better. It could use a coat of paint and cleaning. Very beautiful architecture. What a waste to leave it to slowly deteriorate. Definitely a heritage landmark that would be much appreciated.

This is the main train station in Ipoh. I’m told that it’s affectionately known by the locals as the Taj Mahal of Ipoh. I can only guess that the locals have never actually seen the real thing since it looks nothing like the Taj. Architecturally, the station is quite pretty in white and in a mix of styles typical of the British colonial period. There are elements of Indo-Islamic on the roof, Mudejar in the arches and renaissances throughout the building. While not as beautiful as the Taj, it’s a pretty building in its own right.

The station is a typical example of Brit colonial architecture. In a poor state of repair and probably of null interest to most visitors. Same sentiment applies to the nearby war memorial (poor condition) and clock tower.

We caught the train from Kuala Lumpur to ipoh, trip was about 2 hours. Was relaxing and not as noisy as I thought it would be. The old train station, is just that OLD. Plenty of character, not a great deal of the modern day age there. But it was still easy to navigate your way around.
