About
Ipoh World (IpohWorld) is an education-based, not-for-profit organisation established in 2004 to promote awareness and appreciation of Perak, the Silver State of Malaysia and its unique, diverse and rich heritage, with particular focus on Ipoh and the Kinta Valley. In 2006 we ran our first public exhibition "The Story of Ipoh: From Feet to Flight", in cooperation with Darul Ridzuan Museum. Since then, supported by sponsorship, we have run several more exhibitions while continuing to seek further financial support for a permanent, lively and interesting heritage gallery for Ipoh, thus enhancing both education and tourism. This current project, our first permanent, museum quality exhibition is our first step to fulfilling this objective. Advance booking is recommended as space in the building is limited. You may book via our website by clicking on Exhibitions or by the QR Code on our brochure. It is quick and easy and you receive a booking confirmation by return.

- Kenny3 contributionsSmall Museum Building, but Great historyFirst of all, please be on time, and don't bring annoying children. Mr. Leong is our English tour guide. I am in the travel industry, and travel throughout the world, I can see in Mr. Leong eyes, he really enjoys what he does, and proud of his city. He shared some of the greatest histories of how the Chinese travel to Malaysia, and the city of Ipoh. I don't want to share too much info on here, if you travel to Ipoh, definitely make a reservation and take this tour. For donation, I recommend 10.00RM per person or more to help support the non-profit organizationDear Kenny0313, thank you for your time in putting up a review of your visit at Han Chin Pet Soo. We are delighted to know you find our museum building small and yet filled with great history. Also, thank you for recommending our museum a definite place to visit when in Ipoh. Hope to see you again soon. Happy travelling !Written 10 January 2020This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited January 2020Written 7 January 2020
- PLSingapore, Singapore9 contributionsInteresting Guided Museum TourHan Chin Pet Soo is located across the street from Concubine Lane and you can visit it before or after completing your heritage walk in Ipoh Old Town. However, you have to pre-book your timeslot on IpohWorld website as it is a very small 3-storey museum with limited capacity. It essentially showcases the history of Hakka tin miners settling down in Ipoh. There are various artefacts to view and the guide, Mr Leong, is very knowledgeable in presenting interesting accounts about them. The free guided tour lasts for about an hour and visitors can make a donation at the end of the tour. I appeal to everyone who have booked the guided tour to turn up on the day/time as it deprives other visitor(s) of the chance to visit the museum.Dear PL, thank you for your review on Tripadvisor. We are glad you find the guided tour at Han Chin Pet Soo interesting. Hope to see you again in the future. She uses a microphone to go through the history of this building and every part that is displayed. She's jovial and the hour long tour ended with everyone feeling happy and know Ipoh town better.Dear shirley19572015, thank you for your review on TripAdvisor. Accompanying our small group is a knowledgeable guide who is friendly and helpful. Learnt much history lessons too! And the artefacts are so wonderfully preserved. Very much impressed. Remember to make a prior booking before the tour to avoid disappointment. Don’t be late for the tour or you will be “locked” out.

The guide, Mr Leong was very knowledgeable and engaging. A must visit in Ipoh. Could do with more tours but understand the cost and manpower issues.

Guided 1 h tour of the building with exhibits on three floors. Need to make a reservation upfront as the visit is only possible during one of three timeslots each day. We had a very knowledgeable guide who provided an entertaining mix of history, tin mining, Hakka culture and local customs. Absolutely worth the visit. The building is now preserved by a non-profit organization. The visit is free, and the recommended donation is 10 MYR.

Really enjoyed our visit to the villa - beautifully preserved, and with great story telling of the Hakka people who migrated into Ipoh to take up work, as well as the glory days of Ipoh as Tin capital of the world. A good glimpse of the various historical tin mining processes, as well as how the captains of industry relax and socialize.
Highly recommended!

Didnt think it would be my highlight of my visit to Ipoh. The guided tour was excellently presented by Mr Leong. I now have a better understanding of the lives of mining towkays by taking a glimpse of their 4 vices & the company they hang out with.

Hi Ng C, apologies for not replying to you in Chinese. With regards to tickets, we do not charge any entrance fees but we do welcome a suggested donation of RM10 per person at the end of the tour which is not compulsory but does help us with the upkeep of the building.

Only just got your question. It is always best to book at our website.
if it is a school trip with 120 student , can we fit in there ?
Ian A
Ipoh, Malaysia227 contributions
The most we can fit in at one time is 60 pax divided into 3 concurrent groups and the shortest tour like that would be one hour.
We can always make special arrangements if you give us advance notice.

is the guided tour mandatory/ essential and is the place child-friendly. we have a six year-old who doesn't have the attention span for a 75min tour.

They prefer that you go thru the guided tour which we found quite fun and informative. Our 8 yr daughter also enjoyed the experience , taking pictures and having the adults in the group explaining how all the old things that we hadn't seen since our childhood used to work. Honestly when the guide said that it was going to take an hour and a half i didn't believe it could or that we would stay that long, but you really do find a lot of historical things to linger on. Now we didn't book or register prior to showing up, so we were lucky that they had staff there when we showed up .. they run the tours at set hours, and as i think i noted in my review the doors are usually closed to maintain the air conditioning , so don't be put off it the placed looks like its closed.. ring or knock and wait , someone should show up quickly. Also you might want to go next door to the medicinal tea house after your tour .. not quite as long but interesting and you can pick up some healthy tea .. Concubine Lane is right across as well but we had run out of time.
