A popular hindu temple for local & tourists. It's nice to visit during thaipusam, even crowded with people & cars. Religion presentation & programme are worth to it

I visited there during Thaipusam . You could see the ceremony with ease and full of happiness . Their crowd control are good and systematic . Crowds are there during Thaipusam and all devotees are very pious is doing their ritual . You need to get out of the crowds to get a Taxi far away as road congestion .

This is one of the most beautiful temples to visit in Ipoh. This is where Thaipusam celebration is held annually. (similar to Batu Caves). You can see peacocks and if you are lucky, you will even get to savour the sweet rice or even full lunch or dinner vegetarian treat sponsored by certain families who conduct their prayers on chosen dates. So if you think you are going to be lucky, then drop by this magnificent temple housing the handsome Lord Muruga.

There is a Chinese buddhist temple next door which is in a small cave but this one isn't. Is an Indian hindu temple, colourful statues to look at but that's pretty much it if you're not there for prayer. Burnt my feet on the boiling hot concrete and stood on sharp stones (no shoes allowed anywhere). Has a bunch of peacocks cramped in a cage up the back. Pack of stray dogs out front to walk past to get to the entrance. Overall not a fantastic experience!

During my recent illness I took a vow that I would pray in several old Hindu temples in Malaysia following my recovery. We stopped by the Kallumalai Murugan Temple in Ipoh on our way to Penang. The temple is sited in a picturesque place by the side of the highway. It is surrounded by limestone cliffs and there is ample parking. The presiding deity is Lord Murugan. The surrounding temple walls are adorned with statues depicting religious stories from Hindu scriptures. At the back of the temple is a caged sanctuary for peacocks - in Hindu mythology, Lord Murugan's vehicle for his travels. A small flower shop sold a few garlands to those who wanted to make offerings at the temple but the variety available was poor - I would suggest that one source garlands from elsewhere before going to the temple.
The temple was not crowded during our visit and we got to say our prayers in peace. We were joined by an old friend Dr Letchumanan who is the current chief physician to the Goverment of Malaysia ; Dr Letchumanan later treated us to a sumptuous vegetarian meal before we continued with our journey.

Very tranquil setting for a moment with God. Besides the main deity who is Lord Muruga, who destroys Ignorance, the temple also has Kala Bhairava statue which is NOT closed off to public even during non-prayer times (I went at noon). So if you find yourself there during such a time and all of the temple feels silent as the crowds have left, use the time to lose yourself in the almost pin-drop silence in front of Lord Kala Bhairava. This deity pervades time and "manages" it for you - meaning he makes sure one is at the right time at the right place to achieve a desired goal. Think of him as Father Time, in the Hindu pantheon and sit still for a moment with Him, in the peace offered by Ipoh's Kallimalai Murugan Temple.

Calm and serene Temple. It was being spruced up for the forthcoming Thaipussam activities. I believe this Temple gets very crowded during Thaipussam celebrations.
