Low tide walk to pulau giam
2.0 of 5 bubblesFeb 2024
We walked to pulau giam during chinese new year 2024. The phenomenon where the sea was especially low and they can walk across the sandbanks to the pulau and we wished that the locals that advised us to walk across the sea to give us the full story before starting the walk. Its not a far walk about 20 minutes tops. Highly recommend to NOT walk in barefoot and wear some type of swim shoes/boots that are a tight fit and cannot float and wash away by the tide, also to make sure all valuables such as handphone be in watertight pouches. During the walk across to pulau giam they will be many obstacles. 1st obstacle will be halfway across, here you WILL step on whether you like it or not, slimy gooey sea cucumber that will eject a type of white string in defense, covering bottom of your pants and shoes will be in this white string. 2nd obstacle the sandbanks will dip and turn so your footing will not be stable. 3rd obstacle will be seeing your beloved sandals floating away because you lost your footing and fell down onto the array of sharp hidden corals around the sandbanks on the way to pulau giam. 4th obstacle will be hearing the outrageous prices they charge to tourists to take a boat ride back to coral beach from pulau giam as you no longer want to walk the way back. 5th obstacle will be steeling your nerves and feeling the regret in the pits of your gut to walk across the sandbanks back to coral beach pulau pangkor. So there you have it, an honest review from a local tourist. By the way everybody in pangkor island is upcharging the sales price of food, snacks, toiletries, etc. It is no longer cheaper than kl, whereas in perak food is still affordable.

1) Boat ride cost around RM120 per family

2) Snorkelling - not as expected. The water is not as expected, no fish swimming around and quite dangerous snorkelling as a lot of slippery rock/thorny

3) Not as per pictures or googling around. Maybe due to too many people visiting here and it is no longer beautiful

I've been to this so-called island.. As it looks great from a distance.. But that's as far as the compliments go..

The beach isn't that much of a beach.. Less than 40 metres long full of rocks and very not swimmable due to the dead coral reefs.. Even snorkeling is kinda pathetic as there isn't much to see..

I wouldn't recommend visiting this.. Beaches on the main Pangkor island are far better..

If you are in Pangkor you have to come to this island for sure. You only need like 10-15 minutes to reach the island by boat, and you also can ask the boat to wait for you to do snorkeling, or just playing around at the beach.

The sand is really clean, white, and during weekdays and low season, it's just so quiet that you will feel you have the entire island for yourself <3

Bonus, you can see Pangkor Island (especially the Teluk Nipah & Coral Beach, as well as Lie Jen Kong Temple) from here, too, giving you a different view from what you always see from Pangkor side :)

Pulau Giam was almost never being heard of…but today, almost all visitors to Pulau Pangkor will flock here. There’s a boat landing and picking up visitors almost every 10 minutes or so… Indeed, this small outcrop of rock provides a splendid light snorkeling adventure where fishes swam to take your bread off your hand. The sea water here is crystal clear, sand is smooth and fine. It’s beautiful indeed.
This “island” where everybody lands, play and swim is only less than 30 metres wide. It’s merely a few steps to “the other side of the island”. That’s why I refer it as an outcrop. A relatively good swimmer with a fin can leisurely swim round the island in more or less 10 minutes!
Boats ferrying tourists have a tight landing spot squeezed between swimmers and rocks to a sandy beach. This spot is where it’s sandy whereas the other side of the island where the boat operators tell us to go snorkeling is rocky and slippery. It’s quite dangerous…my feet slipped and was caught in between 2 rocks and I ended up with a cut and bruises. Many swimmers appeared to have their foot bruised too. The side where the boats land their visitors is nice…sand leads into the sea. You can wade into the sea and snorkel without any hassle.
Maybe the state government can upgrade this place so that boats landing and tourists snorkeling won’t come into contact so dangerously near. You can collect a fee for those visiting Pulau Giam for the upgrading works.

We swam to it one day (although could have literally waded to it, the water is so shallow) and kayaked to it another day. Its lovely to be there and to look around. We'll worth any effort you make to get there.

Walking on Pristine, clean, sandy beaches on a nearby [to Coral/Nipah Beaches] small island is a "TRUE PLEASURE"!! This beach can easily be reached by boats found along Coral Beach!!
This "Caribbean style" beach has many trees which line the beach and provide shade. Its a very enjoyable beach to relax on, read a book, walk along and swim!!

The island is pretty small. The only activity you can do here is swimming. However, some part the seabed can be quite rocky due to the corals. There is also no facilities where you can store your belongings. What we like about here is its clear swimming waters.

Reviewed this place as coral beach mistake. Two hours enough here. 25 Myr trip per person boat from coral beach. Two places on island one in the middle really rocky area. Snorkeling boots recommended. Other spot small beach with shop. No beer sold here. Comfortable spot to relax. Island looks better from a distance. A place to pass away an afternoon that's about it.
