Fabindia store nearby sells elegant cotton clothing for both women and men in sizes big enough for Westeners. Many other smaller shops sell cheap summer dresses in batik prints also in cotton and viscose.Visited February 2023Written 12 February 2023

They sell quite reasonable depends on with shop you enter also and if your good at bargaining. The sweets shops and restaurant around the place is another level like you can get all kind of Indian cuisine that are so delicious.Visited April 2021Travelled with familyWritten 22 April 2021

Little India: fascinating microcosm of India and Indian culture in Penang; bold, bright, colourful. Cafes, Sari & fabric stores, fresh flowers-sellers, ethnic jewelry (real-Gold or costume - bangles, earrings to die-for), temples & more - a feast for all senses, in iconic streets near the waterfront, jostling one another. (I have gait/walking challenges (stroke), wear a legbrace.) In Georgetown, the heart of UNESCO World Heritage site Penang, will visit again soon.

Today old George Town looks mainly like a Chinatown with some Malay and European touches, although there is quite a bit of Indian, especially in the very central part called 'Little China' in an approximately square area between Beach Street, Pitt Street, China Street and Chulia Street.
For once here can be seen more Indian than Chinese shops, mainly textiles, especially on Market Street, Penang Street, King Street and Queen Street. To wander in this area adds to the character of a cosmopolitan town and it is definitely recommended.
Little India is bordered to the south by Beach Street with the former commercial and financial centre of Georgetown and some interesting architecture from colonial times.
The Indians in Penang used to be called 'Keling' (as in 'Kapitan Keling Mosque'), derived from the Kalinga Empire on India's central east coast, but now slightly derogatory, or 'Chulia' (as in Chulia Street), derived from the Chola Empire, but here referring mainly to Tamil Muslims.

We entered along Queen Street and stopped by the temple first. Really good to see and a bustling area. There are some really lovely food stalls, especially the samosa stand, half way along the street.
